This elegant brick and sandstone Château, set in a park of 60 hectares, is a magnificent example of classical 18th century architecture. With its fine collection of furniture from the Ancien Régime and superbly preserved décor, the château brings to life all the finesse and noblesse of life in the 18th century. The quest for harmony and perfection continues in the grounds at La Motte-Tilly with French and English style gardens and the beautiful lake which is the focal point of all perspectives. I don't think that I have stayed in a more spectacular or atmospheric hotel than the Chateau Fort de Sedan. The hotel is part of the historic castle at the heart of the Ardennes town. The accommodation itself is very tasteful with all mod cons. You can even drive your car up to the top of the battlements and park outside your room on the sixth floor. The bed was really comfy and the shower was spot on. Hotel staff were very helpful especially in this post-covid world. Breakfast options were limited but that is the new norm. All in all - Highly recommended.

The house is left in its semi-derelict state as when the current owners bought it. You can't enter the main house except for the entrance hall and the cellars. The rest is proposed up with beams and only accessible via a drone video. You can also visit the outhouses and garden. It is left as if found after being abandoned, with dust, cobwebs and piles of objects lying around. Which NT property would leave a wood axe lying around for people to pick up in a cellar? You can visit via a Cluedo style mystery, solving clues hidden in each cellar room or outbuilding to identify the servant who stole an object. A hidden gem away from the big honeypot sites.
