We went to the restaurant at the jetty and they soon arranged a boat trip for us, this was a Wednesday in mid-March. We paid E15 each and it lasted over an hour. If you go early at this time of year there can be a mist off the river. We were the only ones in the boat which was small and so very confortable, the seats were like a sofa! The boatman spoke very good English and told us a lot about the river and the wild life, we saw vultures nesting, herons, cormorants, etc., and terrapins. A really enjoyable trip helped by the excellent weather and a good lunch afterwards. Longer trips are available and there is a larger cruise boat which would be suitable for large parties. The boats are all run from the restaurante.

i don't know a great deal about caves and what time and water can do to them,i know a bit more now but this was one visual treat of a guided tour that all the family can enjoy.throw in a guide who's enthusiasm, excellent english and knowledge is second to none and you've got the makings for a very enjoyable all but one hour tour and do enjoy the free treats at the end of the tour,i did and very nice they were too. and if you have to wait ten minutes or so before your tour starts there is one of the smartest cafeterias and gift shops i have ever seen just above the entrance to the caves to enjoy.

It's a really nice walk from Cascais city center to get here, and then you get rewarded by the sight of raw, powerful nature...giant waves crashing into the rocks, what a great show to watch!

Great place to visit while in the area. The staff is well prepared and very friendly. They even learned us a trick or two for taking better pictures in the cave. Definitely a great visit!
