Indian Creek Nature Center

A very environmentally conscious experience, from the solar arrays to the butterfly gardens, beehives, forest walks, and greenhouses, is the place to take kids and adults to understand their place in the world. Right now is a good time to see the power of the derecho storm from last August. The number of trees blown down by the creekside is astonishing. In another month the remaining trees will leaf out and cover the damage. A place worth visiting again and again.

Love biking around the lake and then continuing onto the Indian Creek Nature trail! It is really nice that we are also able to put the kayake's in for a spin.

There is a nice walkway along the river, and sometimes there are activities happening. It smells better on the days the factory is making crunch berry cereal :-).

We recently walked one of the trails built on this old landfill, and were rewarded with a beautiful view of Cedar Rapid at the overlook. There are three trails at this site. Trashmore Trail is a downhill only trail that is supposed to be a fun ride for bicyclists. Overlook Trail is for both walkers/runners and bicyclists with traffic running both uphill and downhill. We walked the Stumptown Trail which is just for walkers/runners. You would want to be in reasonably good shape to walk this trail. All of the trails have limited hours, so check online before going. Also, they close for any inclement weather to protect the trails from damage. What a beautiful idea for using the site!
