Once considered America's greatest zoo, The Catskill Game Farm housed over 2,000 animals with tens of millions of people having visited during its 73 year history. Today you can stay on the abandoned property and explore what remains. You have two options for your visit. You can spend a night under the stars at one of our private upscale campsites. Or you can stay at our boutique inn, The Old Catskill Game Farm Inn. Our property boasts 200+ mountainside acres, 3.5 miles of the original paved walkways and over 100 buildings of the old animal shelters are still in tact for you to explore.
Booked The Long Neck Inn with a group of friends and had a wonderful time. It was a unique experience to stay at an old zoo turned hotel. The service was excellent. We enjoyed the hot tub, fire pit and walking our dog (a few rooms are pet friendly) on the property.

Thomas Cole (1801-1848) founded the Hudson River School as one of America's premier landscape painters. Cedar Grove, his home in the historic Catskill region, was named a National Historic Site in 1999 and is open to the public today. Visitors can tour the grounds, see rotating exhibitions of Hudson River School art, and learn about the life of Thomas Cole.
I’ve been to Olana many times across the Hudson River, but never to Cole’s house. Very rewarding — you really feel the family and what Cole was trying to do in landscapes and ecology. Highly recommend the guided tour, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides. All the main rooms are open and contain interactive elements as well as period pieces. Several buildings are included , with the old studio now a modern museum- quality gallery with exhibitions that broaden your understanding of the importance of the Hudson River School of Painting for not only being the first real American art but also helping Americans appreciate and preserve their own scenery and environment.

Beattie-Powers Place is hidden jewel within the Village of Catskill - a park with an expansive view of the Rip Van Winkle Bridge and Olana, and a venue for lectures and musical performances in the historic house. A gift from a wealthy designer to the village, The Friends of Beattie-Powers maintain the property and the on-going cultural programming "for the benefit of all." Everyone is welcome at the park, which is also dog friendly (when leashed), from dawn til dusk. During winter months, the steep hillside is a favorite sledding spot. During the warmer months, the benches make for great reading spots.
