The Banco di Santa Croce, "biological protection area" established in 1993, consists of five large rocky pinnacles. The walls, more or less steep, depending on the different sides, reach about 50 m. of depth. After the first 7-8 m of depth, a scenario of a beauty hardly imaginable opens up to the eyes of divers, for a stretch of sea so close to the mouth of the Sarno river

We spent three fantastic days diving with Bikini Team. Weekday was perfect, all well organised... Weekends were quite crowded with some delays but overall the organoisation was fine. Good place to dive. Not many saline but hey, it's Mediterranean. Saying that - better you guys sink a small platform at 40 m and soon it would be a nice artificial reef. Better to come with AOWD certification to go down to 30 m to see more. But they have nice spots for technical divers as well. The owner - Gloria - is an expertly friendly person! Hope to come back soon!

Stabiae is one of the four villages covered by the eruption of the Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD along with Pompeii Herculaneum and Oplontis. It is located near the modern Castellammare di Stabia, in an area known as Varano and approximately 4.5 km southwest of Pompeii. The site was declared an archaeological protected area in 1957, and by 1962 many of the ruins had been again uncovered. It is here that the Roman Pliny the Elder landed with a boat on the day of the eruption in order to rescue his friends living in town. The excavations returned two celebrated Roman villas, Villa San Marco and Villa Arianna, with frescoes, statues, sculptures, mosaics similar to those already found in Pompeii and Herculaneum.

8. Oplontis&Stabiae: discover the Hidden Treasures with your Archaeologist

Villa di Poppea, Via Sepolcri, 80058 Torre Annunziata NA, Italy Naples Grand Tour

Among the archaeological locations of Vesuvius, buried following the dramatic eruption of 79 A.D., Oplontis is probably the one that offers the most significant monumental testimonies of the Pompeian suburb: your local expert Archaeologist will guide you to these unforgettable places! Currently the only visiting monument of the ancient Oplontis is a large residential villa: it belonged to Poppaea Sabina, the second wife of Emperor Nero, or the heritage of her family, based on the testimony of an inscription painted on a mentioned amphora Sucundus, his slave or freedman. This place is a kind of miracle: the the wall paintings are still today vivid in colors and details… You’ll be totally AMAZED! Stabiae played an important strategic and commercial role: there are numerous villas in a panoramic position, conceived mainly for residential purposes, with large residential neighborhoods, spa facilities, porches and beautifully decorated nymphs. Currently you can visit 'Villa S. Marco' the largest among the Roman 'villas' and 'Villa Arianna', the oldest, which owes its name to the large painting with mythological subject found in the back wall of the triclinium. It’s very fascinating to see how the eruption was so distructive, even among the smallest villages – not as big as Pompeii and Herculaneum – and how everything is preserved as well!

Inclusions: Guided tour by a professional archaeologist and licensed guide

I have enjoyed several tours with Raffaele. All have been extremely informative and he has pointed out things that would have not been noticed without him. Additionally, his command of history helps make what we see understandable in context.
