Cynghordy Railway Viaduct is a very impressive structure, just a 5 minute walk from Cynghordy Stables self catering cottages. Well worth a detour if you're passing Llandovery.

Gwal Y Filiast

Reviewed By countrysiderambler1 - Carmarthenshire, United Kingdom

If you would like a peaceful restorative walk in a beautiful valley to visit a special Neolithic monument then you are looking in the right place. This is an impressive burial chamber within a beautiful valley on a steep slope with the river Taf below. A large capstone held up by 4 supporting stones (5th supporting stone was recorded around 1872). The capstone arrowhead points down to the river Taf which you can hear flowing when standing around the Cromlech. The Cromlech is surrounded by mature beech trees. This is a beautiful peaceful valley filled with flora and fauna. There are several official footpaths that will take you to the Cromlech and several footpaths to explore around the local area. A small bridge below the Cromlech takes you, on the footpath, over the river Taf and onto the village of Login in one direction, Efailwen in another direction and St. Cledwyn’s Church, Llanglydwen in another direction. Well worth a visit to a real hidden gem in West Wales.

Beautiful view, with DT information along the route. Benches along the whole route, some step inclines & steps, so not ideal for people with walking difficulty.

Paxton's Tower

Reviewed By Rachelinpembs - Pembrokeshire, United Kingdom

Curiosity got the better of us as we saw this tower in the distance and had to go and see what the building was. Fantastic old tower with amazing views over Carmarthenshire. You have to keep your eyes peeled to see the signs, in fact we thought the sign from the main road saying castle was what we were heading for but then realised it was a completely different building. Easily accessible from carpark adjacent to tower.

Newton House

Reviewed By Gastronome20 - Canterbury, United Kingdom

Loved the castle, which we accessed by car as there was parking for the disabled up that way. Accessed via a long pathway with a couple of gates to keep in the sheep. The house was interesting, though it was the haunted element which fascinated us, and it was a great move to give a few guests the free Hidden House tour, which we really enjoyed. We were able to view rooms and "the corridor" (where the ghosts are apparently more active) and things about the place which we would never have known about otherwise. The gift shop was lovely - several different areas with some great, original items and 10% off if you spent over £10 in the cafe. The cafe was wonderful. Exceptional, in fact. The chilli was delicious, and the jackets were well cooked (not your average reheated tough potato) and we loved the cornish pasties, they were absolutely top-notch. There was green tea available, excellent coffee and a whole range of other drinks. If this cafe was available locally to me I'd be in there A LOT!! All in all, a great place, but what also stood out were the staff. Exceptional service all the way, and in the hut where we bought the tickets, the guy serving was absolutely lovely and so customer-friendly and genuinely warm. Loved this place and cannot recommend it highly enough.
