Quaint alpine villages and great skiing entice travelers to the Grisons. The sparsely populated region of eastern Switzerland contains the source of the Rhine and Inn rivers, 140 square miles of glaciers and dense pine forests. Join the ski action at the resorts of St. Moritz, Davos and Arosa or stake a lofty claim with a visit to Juf, which boasts the highest altitude of any inhabited village in the Alps. In summer, take a hike through the Engadine Valley in the unspoiled beauty of Swiss National Park.

I stayed in Guarda in late September/October 2019 for three days. Quite by accident, our sojourn coincided with a festival where the cows and goats are brought down from the Alps to the village to spend the winter. This was absolutely charming! The animals were decorated with daisy/flower chains and many of their herders were in national/local dress. There were stalls selling local handmade trinkets and foods, and a wonderful festive atmosphere pervaded the whole village. However, what struck us most were the magnificent views! I felt like I was in a film set of Heidi! In fact, the 2015 Heidi film was filmed in the area. The snow-capped mountains and lush green valleys were a sight to behold. Stunning! The village itself is completely preserved, and full of quaint homes , beautifully painted and decorated. We ate at the Meissner Hotel which had a terrace overlooking the valley - magnificent views. The village has great walking trails, and we spent hours trekking up higher and higher, just to get an even better view around the next corner. I would thoroughly recommend a trip to this charming, quaint little village for anyone who needs an escape from the humdrum of everyday life. You will come away completely refreshed and ready to conquer the world! Gorgeous!

In the Heididorf, visitors immerse into the "Dörfli" from the world-famous novel Heidi and discover the home of Heidi. Experience an emotional journey in time back to the Swiss mountains of the late 19th century and enjoy the place, where the Swiss writer Johanna Spyri found the inspiration for her world-famous novel Heidi.

Spent the evening in Chur before heading off on the Bernina Express. Pleasantly surprised walking around the old town, it was very clean and the old buildings maintained well.
