This mini golf exceeded our expectations! We were hitting some travel fatigue, and this was just what we needed for a fun and laid back pick me up. Even the tuk tuk ride out was a beautiful and interesting experience, as it is in a little town and farming fields outside of the main city so you get to explore more of the surrounding area of Siem Reap. Highly recommend!

If you don't have your own motorcycle, hire a big bike for $4 on the Old Market Street with under-seat storage. Take an emergency bottle of gas, a thin sweater, or at least an extra, long-sleeved layer, which you'll need as you go up this 1km-high mountain. One side, going from Kampot town up to the big Buddha, has various tall tree and rock formations. The other side, coming toward Bokor Hill Station and toward the direction of Sihanoukville, has waterfalls, rivers and the feel of moors and shrubs. You don't want to be wandering around there after dark, so get started early or else sleep at the inn for $5, or even pre-plan and make a romantic getaway for over $200. (Search Bokor National Park on Booking for the expensive hotels). The single driving route from the entrance of Bokor National Park to the summit is very well-kept, and wide enough for the maintenance trucks that you might see going up and down, so no worries about safety. (Don't walk...it takes 1 hr nonstop up to the giant Buddha and King Sihanouk's now disused Black Palace on a powerful moto.) FILL YOUR TANK BEFORE YOU GO. It takes almost a full tank of gas to get to the top. There are little stalls near the big Buddha that llook like those roadside stalls selling cheap Cambodian snacks in plastic.THEY SELL GAS - at twice the price, but there's no where else to buy it up there. There's no gas on display. You have to ask. This is a gorgeous route, definitely worth a day-trip.

Kep National Park nestles on the hill side behind Kep and forms the back drop to the town of Kep. It is heavily forested but don’t be put off by this because there are a series of good walking trails that can be followed. The trails vary between an easy broad track which circles the park, right through to several smaller narrow tracks that will take you to areas of the park a lot less visited. We particularly liked the so called “stairway to heaven” which eventually led to the sunset rock with spectacular views over two bays and out to sea. The park is shown on several local maps but we found a hand drawn map showing the trails most useful. Even more useful were our hosts Andy and Linda at Casa Kep, very close to the park, who knew the trails very well and gave great directions.

The National Park with its various landscapes is a great place to experience Cambodia's nature. Get out of the civilization and start your adventure into the forests of Virachey National Park, where you will get to a point were no mobile phone connection is available anymore. Living in the rhythm of Nature a unique experience! Trekking with the only offical National Park trekking provider can include Kayaking, indigenous homestay, camping in the forest, community-based-ecotourism, etc.
