Things to do in California, United States: The Best Symphonies

November 14, 2021 Vivienne Hutton

California is a fertile, peaceful place where you’ll find a near-equal balance of vineyards and deserts, beaches and mountains, hippies and traditionalists. Catch an epic wave in Big Sur or swirl a glass in Napa Valley. Be dazzled by the Joshua Tree night sky or just star-gaze in Hollywood. Swish down the slopes of a Tahoe ski resort, or cruise across the Golden Gate Bridge with the top down and the music blasting. Above all, don’t forget to soak up some Golden State sunshine.

It hardly matters what the program is (though some are better than others) nor where you sit in the auditorium. You don't even have to be a classical music lover or know much about it. An evening at the symphony is a balm for your body, soul and heart. Treat yourself, relax and take in the sounds of perfection! At our most recent visit we listened to Handel's Messiah, which was magnificent. Can't wait to return this week for another wonderful performance.

We recently attended performances that included Beethoven’s 5th and 6th Symphonies. As the music swept over the orchestra, one could observe their bliss in creating this music, a bliss shared by their audience.
