Cairo’s an ancient city that also happens to be a modern metropolis—it’s one of the biggest cities in the Middle East and has the traffic and noise issues to prove it. But as long as you’re not looking for solitude, Cairo—the City of the Thousand Minarets—is a splendid place to explore Egyptian history and culture. This gallery, dedicated to promoting contemporary Arab artists, is comprised of a three-story main building, exhibition halls, classrooms, a library and six studios.
Recommend if you want to buy small gifts to take and or interesting affordable art. Nice to avoid the khan el Khalili atmosphere and casually browse. They also hold art workshops for kids in the community.

We found this store 10 years ago and fell in love with a piece that we picked up. It is still one of our favourite framed pieces in our home. When we decided to return to Cairo again I knew exactly what I would love to bring back. We returned to the shop and picked a new piece from the same artist and our children also picked out their own papyrus paintings. The quality, variety and uniqueness will not be found anywhere else in Cairo. I’m sure someday my children will be back to get another papyrus painting as well.
