Things to do in Bucerias, Nayarit: The Best Classes & Workshops

November 20, 2021 Elouise Mccaul

Meaning “place of divers,” Bucerias on Mexico’s Pacific Coast is a charming antidote to the hustle and bustle of nearby Puerto Vallarta. You’ll meet the friendly locals and enjoy beautiful beaches, fantastic dining, outdoor activities and art galleries. Locals congregate in the small plaza in the center of town or head for the beach for some sun and unfettered mountain and bay views. Beyond the beaches of Bucerias, you’ll find superb dining, flea markets laden with special treasures, art galleries, and pubs. Once you’ve tired of the sun, meander through the flea market off the main plaza and tour the residential side of Bucerias, complete with boutique shopping and quality restaurants like La Quinta di Francesco and Adriatico. Some of the best art galleries in town include Splurge Art Gallery, showcasing emerging local artists and designer pewter. On Thursday evenings, participate in the local art walk, and on Sundays, visit the authentic Mexican market. From Bucerias, explore other Riviera Nayarit locations such as Savulita, Punta Mita and San Francisco – they’re all accessible by cheap, frequent bus service.

Want an amazing experience in Bucerias? Go take a cooking class at My Mexican Kitchen. We did the seafood class with 6 other friends and what a night. We learned so much about Mexican food and some fabulous recipes in a booklet to take home. My favourite was the crab empanadas we were taught to make. Edgar was very patient with us- teaching us how to use the tortilla press and Travis was so great- putting up with our jokes and comments. This was a fabulous evening and everyone of us(and some were total non cooks) thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Thank you Edgar and Travis for an exceptional class and helping us discover the true flavours of Mexico

Flavors of Nayarit

If you have a group of minimum 6 people and a spacious kitchen while you are in the Bahía de Banderas, Nayarit area (Nuevo Vallarta, Bucerías, La Cruz, Punta Mita, Sayulita, etc). I would love to share with you the authentic different ways of cooking in my home state Nayarit. From the ocean to the mountains, from the north to south, you’ll experience how cooking is done in the homes of our Nayaritan people. We can schedule with a minimum of 5 days, and if there is space available, I go to your place with molcajetes, cutting boards, knives, ingredients, set the place up, teach your party in the intimacy of your house or condo, we have fun, eat traditional Mexican Nayaritan food (mainly, as upon agreement, I can teach you food from other parts of Mexico), and don´t worry, my team and I clean the kitchen up! Classes are very hands on! so be ready to peal, chop, grind, make your own tortillas and empandas (turnovers). If you want to know more about my research and me, visit my webpage.
