The beaches of tropical Broome aren’t just beautiful—they’re historic. The white-sand Cable Beach is named for an undersea telegraph cable that was laid in the late 1800s, connecting Broome to Singapore. A short hop over the dunes is Minyirr Park, and, on the eastern shore, Town Beach is home to a famous natural phenomenon, the Staircase to the Moon. Time-travel to the prehistoric era by heading to Gantheaume Point to check out 130-million-year-old dinosaur footprints.

Broome Bird Observatory is located on the north-west coast of Australia on the shores of Roebuck Bay. The Broome region is regarded as the most significant site in Australia for shorebirds as well as being of high signifcance among other locations for shorebirds across the world. Roebuck Bay has the greatest diversity of shorebird species of any site on the planet and around 150,000 of these birds visit annually.
Had a fabulous time at BBO when we visited recently for a few days. Bird watching can be done from the camp kitchen/shade house as the birds come to the bird baths or short walks around the property and down to the sea shore. We also went on a great bird 'safari' with the warden and assistant warden onto the 'plains'. The facilities were great for campers with partially shaded spots, great showers etc. A friendly crew of mainly volunteers look after the place and guests.

For the hiking ambitious people like us, a beautiful walk from Cable Beach ending then at Entrance point (about 12k). There were hardly any people around, the blue water with a red stone backdrop makes a beautiful picture as in paradise. we really loved the scenery. Hubbie was keen to find some dinosaur tracks but there are no signs at all, so we haven't been successful
