The Alliance Hotel

Established in 1864, our charming, family-run hotel has been immaculately preserved and is now a popular Brisbane functions venue with several functions and events rooms to choose from for all occasions, including anniversaries, birthdays, corporate functions and more. Each of The Alliance Hotel’s three levels offers something different for everyone – there’s our bistro for discerning diners, function venues for events, casual spots for drinks with friends and more intimate settings, like our Chalet Bar, for a date-night cocktail. If you’re looking for a superlative dining experience and a great range of function rooms in Brisbane, you’ve come to the right place.

Bar Alto

Reviewed By car0line2811 - Caloundra, Australia

Brisbane”s iconic City Cats (river ferries) delivered us to New Farm Park and we enjoyed a stroll through the magnificent gardens on our way to the Brisbane Powerhouse. There are 2 options for meals/drinks at the Powerhouse and after looking at menus in both places, opted for a light bite at Bar Alto overlooking the Brisbane River. Food is delicious and exquisitely presented, even though we had chosen Bar Food (which we could either eat outside overlooking the water, or inside the building where we found the noise level a little distracting.) There is also a fully blown restaurant inside, with an extensive menu for those hungrier than we were! Two of us shared Beetroot and Goats Cheese Arancini w Basil Pesto ($10), Fritti Di Baccala (creamy salt cod croquettes w Aioli ($9) and a bowl of the most delicious Chips ($9). The restaurant is ideal for meals or snacks throughout the day, and with performances, concerts etc happening at the Powerhouse daily, as well as the proximity of the extensive gardens in New Farm Park which attracts masses of visitors, what better place to relax and recharge! Staff were lovely and this is an experience to be repeated.

Helios Brewing

Brewery with onsite bar open to the public Thursday 4-9pm, Friday and Saturday 12-9pm. Food trucks are on site on Friday and Saturdays. Our brewery is solar powered and we have solar thermal for hot water.

Discovered Helios last year and can’t speak highly enough of it. It is brilliant for any lunch or dinner (or any other time drop in) between the rotation of food trucks, casual setting (including board games, retro console and kids play area) and obviously some great local beer. Usually also a guitarist/singer keeping everyone entertained. Chris and Scott (brewers) and Jax (venue manager) are awesome and active hosts, and are building a great venue that draws you in as part of a community. Helios has taught me that a good beer is like fruit and veg, you should be buying it fresh, and from a local supplier, not preserved from a bulk warehouse. Poseidon Pale and the Hazy are current favourites, hopefully they bring back the Midas Touch gold.

Jumping Goats is a small family-run neighbourhood bar. We pride ourselves on sourcing the best local craft beer from Brisbane and surrounds, world class boutique Queensland wines, exceptional Australian craft spirits, and refreshing Australian non-alcoholic drinks. We have a choice of cheeses and a wide range of bar snacks, or BYO food (eg from Thai and pizza next door). Come drink local with us!

Went here last night with some friends after wanting to go for quite a while. Dry unassuming place at first, but once you walk in it has a very laid back atmosphere that makes you want to relax and have a good night. The guys behind the bar were very knowledgeable and helped point me in the direction of a couple drinks I’ve never tried before and were really good. Like the other reviews food choice isn’t huge, but the cheese platter we got was really nice. We also went next door and grabbed a pizza which is an added bonus. All up it was a great visit, I will definitely be back.
