Bridport is a market town in Dorset, England, situated approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 km) inland from the English Channel near the confluence of the small River Brit and its tributary the Asker. Its origins are Saxon and it has a long history as a rope-making centre, though many of its buildings date from the 18th century.

Guided fossil hunting and collecting walks at Charmouth on Dorset's Jurassic Coast with Chris Pamplin B.Sc.
We just got home from our two days on the Jurassic Coast. Chris was a marvel. My 7 year old was pretty grumpy but he told wonderfully terrible jokes and managed to cheer her up. Chris is knowledgeable and patient and makes it easy. Helped us get the eye for it and by the end if three hours we were seeing fossils everywhere. Really fun and it was spot on for all 3 generations of us.

This was a wonderful find, with the bonus of National Trust Members being able to park for free!! The car park is large and is one both sides of the road. The walk to the beach is a short gentle slope. The shingle is fine and therefore not too difficult for us 50+ people. There is a small, and very informative, National Trust Shop (where you can also join up to become a member), as well as a very busy café overlooking the bay. There are miles to walk along the Jurassic coast and warnings not to sit under overhanging cliffs. We walked up the green hill to the east arriving at a small Pill Box - quite a steep walk should you have breathing difficulties, but manageable with stops. Would certainly recommend for families and people of all ages, maybe take a picnic to avoid the café queues. The toilets were slightly disappointing in that they were smelly and without toilet paper on this particular occasion, but we would certainly want to return to this beach.

This is a very well run bar and restaurant with experienced proprietors, who have taken the COVID precautions very seriously, yet maintain a friendly welcome and excellent food, with super sausage rolls and cakes on the bar. Well worth a detour. A good driving range available to the public as well as reasonable green fees

Stayed in Charmouth last week and visited the beach every day, sometimes twice a day. Great mix of sand, shingle and rock it's great for rock pooling, fossil hunting or just sunning yourself if the weathers good. Parking is plentiful and not too expensive. Does get busy at times though. Easy walk along the beach to Lyme Regis if you fancy it (Tide Times are displayed in several places) or an invigorating hike up the hill towards Weymouth gives fantastic views of the surrounding area. Couple of little shops and a Heritage Centre. When the tide is low you can venture quite far out for ideal fossil hunting and rock pooling.
