This lovely old church is an oasis of peace in amongst the bustling and vibrant Glenferrie Road shopping precinct. Stunning stained glass windows, ornate religious statues, tiled floor and wooden pews. Everything beautifully maintained and spotlessly clean. Like stepping back 100 years in time.

The Hawthorn Railway Station dates from 1861, when It was the end of the line. Today, it serves the Lilydale, Belgrave and Alamein Lines. Hawthorn has progressed from being an outer suburb to being one of Melboune's most prestigious addresses. It was only in 1882 that the station ws upgraded with an additional platform when the line was extened to Camberwell. The Hawthorn Station is showing its age, but it's worth a visit. After all, it's getting on fort 200 years old.

If you are looking for a deceased relative, this is a good place to come. If the office is closed there is still a touch screen (and free paper maps) you can use to find their grave. In addition, public toilets are clean and open. We had a specific person to find, which we did successfully. We also noted some impressive monuments and some amusing inscriptions.

This building looks totally different inside from what the outside suggests, and has been loving restored by the congregation in recent years. The pipe organ is marvellous. Acoustics in a building like this can be tricky, but it seems all covered by a PA system. Normally closed during the week but open pretty much throughout Sundays.

This place was built in 1863 and has continued ever since to entertain young and old Melburnians and visitors as somewhere for a paddle on the river or a repast under the shade of the gum trees. The kiosk provides snacks, the cafe for a more substantial meal and the restaurant caters for functions. Ducks and geese waddle around competing with seagulls and sparrows foraging for food scraps around the tables and picnic area. A stroll across the iconic suspension bridge to the other side of the river gives a look down onto the water and boats and canoes. This is definitely something different and special, and great for outdoor entertaining with family and friends or just somewhere new to visit.
