Bolton (/ˈbɒltən/ ( listen) or locally [ˈbɜʏtn̩]) is a town in Greater Manchester in North West England. A former mill town, Bolton has been a production centre for textiles since Flemish weavers settled in the area in the 14th century, introducing a wool and cotton-weaving tradition. The urbanisation and development of the town largely coincided with the introduction of textile manufacture during the Industrial Revolution. Bolton was a 19th-century boomtown, and at its zenith in 1929 its 216 cotton mills and 26 bleaching and dyeing works made it one of the largest and most productive centres of cotton spinning in the world. The British cotton industry declined sharply after the First World War, and by the 1980s cotton manufacture had virtually ceased in Bolton.

I always buy my Fruit and Veg, Meat ect off here, it's colourfull friendly, and when the stallholders know your a regular, jokey as well, I love this place, they all sell good fresh produce, or slippers, cards, mobility aids, electrics, fabric ect, as well as housing the food court, with a choice of cuisines to suit your taste, including two bars where you can 'park' the hubby, it has a great atmosphere and friendly locals, what more do you want from a market?

Stumbled upon this place when I noticed the entrance to the Vaults. After a lovely lunch we ventured upstairs and was pleasantly surprised at the sheer volume of lovely shops. I would recommend anyone to check out this place.

Middlebrook is the UK’s largest retail park, in addition it also includes the football ground (Bolton Wanderers) and Whites Hotel. In addition there are 2 supermarkets, Asda and a huge Tesco store. It’s also served by train, the station is Horwich Parkway and is on the periphery of the retail park. It’s an “open” retail park, I.e. limited cover when it rains, it’s not an ideal place to visit in the rain. Parking is free, the car parks, of which a smaller one is undercover, are numerous and we’ve never had a problem in finding a space. It is very popular at weekends, when the world, it’s partner and 10 children go to visit! It does get extremely busy, as do the food outlets. Also, as the park houses the football ground, match days should be avoided, although Bolton do not get the crowds that they used to. Leaving by car can be difficult at peak times, I would recommend either leaving before 3.00pm or after 6.00pm if you wish to avoid queues. I definitely recommend visiting, it’s a great place for a people watch but you can buy things too.
