Things to do in Berlin, Germany: The Best Sights & Landmarks

May 9, 2022 Matilde Konrad

Berlin is an edgy city, from its fashion to its architecture to its charged political history. The Berlin Wall is a sobering reminder of the hyper-charged postwar atmosphere, and yet the graffiti art that now covers its remnants has become symbolic of social progress. Check out the Weltzeituhr (world time) Clock, topped by a model of the solar system, then turn back time by dining at the historic Zur Letzten Instanz, a 16th century restaurant that was frequented by Napoleon and Beethoven.

Marlene Dietrich Burial Site

I arrived at this quiet, green cemetary at the end of the day, wandered the field for a half hour, looking for Marlene's grave and in the process getting to admire this cozy, green, charming burial ground. Lovely pastime, found Marlene's grave thanks to a helpful fellow visitor. Lovely and peaceful.

Malzfabrik

The 100-year industrial estate Malzfabrik is a vibrant island with a focus on creativity, culture, environmental awareness and sustainable thinking. The Gründerzeit clinker brick buildings - once Europe's largest malt production facility - exude their special charm in every corner and offer space for new impulses and creative dialogue. With a new, ecologically maximally optimized utilization concept, the nearly 50.000 square meter monument has been given new life since 2009. The area, consisting of nine historic buildings, a large park with two retention ponds, a beach, a nature garden, a city farm and a modern office complex, is a place that invites unconventional thinking, new impulses and creative dialogue. Through various art and cultural offerings, the boundaries between work, leisure and recreation become blurred and make this place particularly worth living.
