A fabulous riverside walk today in beautiful surroundings and lots of wildlife. The riverside gardens and ornate bridges are immaculately maintained providing an ever changing vista with rowers, joggers and families all enjoying a post Christmas Sunday morning stroll. The boating lake and colourful boats brought back happy childhood memories and the lovely restaurants along the Embankment and Rusell Park provide many dining choices. For visitors to the area don't miss the opportunity to extend your walk to Priory Marina which has an abundance of wildlife in beautiful surroundings. Highly recommended.

For many years, more than I care to remember, I have looked at the Hill on the right hand side of the road that takes you to Hitchin. I have said to myself I must go and walk up there one day. Well today I did, and what a lovely experience it was too! I missed the tiny lay by, so had to travel along the road for some time before turning around at the Junction for Pirton. Later I found you can access the reserve further along the road, where you can park in one of the side streets of the village. We, that is my Son and I walked up the path that took us straight up the hill. I had to stop a few times as it is quite steep. However getting to the top, the views were amazing. I would say even more beautiful than up on Dunstable Downs. We saw quite a lot of animals up there, Sheep, Cows, Goats and some Grouse - Butterflies in abundance too! It was very quiet, and we walked right across the reserve and came back round a lower path which brought us back to the lay by. This is indeed a hidden gem, to which I shall be returning!

great place to visit for all ages with pathed routes and muddy trails. Really good place to take the dog for a walk away from roads.

A C19th bridge, on the site of an older bridge, in Bedford, over the Great Ouse river, some great views up and down river, Well worth a visit.

The lock on the Great Ouse enables boats to navigate the river without having to go over a weir. Whilst I did not see any boats navigate the lock on my visit it was open and ready to use. It is on the opposite side of the river to the Embankment road and Russell Park but is easily reached by bridge if you want to make a closer inspection.
