Espace Chemins Bideak

At the european crossroads of the Ways to Compostelle, the former Franciscan convent is now a haven of peace, knowledge and art in the heart of the Basque country, in Lower Navarre. Visitors will enjoy its park, an outstanding garden, exhibitions, audiovisual installations, a giant fresco, an auditorium, the cloister and works of art, all at the center of an extensive network of footpaths.

Jardin botanique littoral de Saint-Jean-de-Luz

AN OUTSTANDING PLACE ! Right in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, siding the coastline hiking-trail and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, sits the town’s Botanical Garden. The visit is a genuine invitation to travel across the coastal landscape of the Basque country. Original gatherings of plants enhance the whole picture : useful plants, a botanical maze, plants originating on the Five Continents … Quite a wide range offered to discovery ! The path to an entertaining as well as educational visit – both for grown-ups and kids – will take you through the four seasons of the year. In addition and providing a deeper insight to the Botanical Garden, is a guide-leaflet (also available in English), plus three thematic guide-leaflets such as : - « As fresh as a Rose » : dealing with cosmetic plants ; - « A tender heart beating under the hard cork » : dedicated to the different uses of local trees and brushes ; - « Bad Seeds ! » : on not-so-bad bad weeds … Various activities are taking place all the year round : guided visits, workshops, exhibitions, nature outings, plant-swapping … A refreshment room will provide organic fruit juices and cookies. In every aspect the Botanical Garden is being managed through natural and environment friendly techniques.
