Obviously Penfolds wine speaks for itself however Vicki totally took our experience to the next level. Upon arrival the space lacked the ambience of most wineries in the Barossa and dare I say, looked a little clinical. However, this apprehension washed away when Vicki started our tasting experience. Vicki went above and beyond, sharing stories and knowledge. She is a brilliant asset to the Penfolds experience!

We thoroughly enjoyed our interesting, informative drive out to see the old Grenache vines, with Tracey’s informative, well-paced commentary of Yalumba history on the way. Tasting the wine made from these old vines, standing in the vineyard that grew them, was an awesome experience! (And the wines were good, too!) On our return to the winery, we enjoyed a very educational and interesting visit to the Cooperage. Lunch at the end of the tour was excellent, and on such a perfect autumn day we just had to sit out in the beautiful gardens! Many thanks also to John our driver, who made a special return trip with a camera which had fallen from a pocket into his pristine car. Heartily recommended!

The winery is a charming heritage building worth checking out even if you don’t drink wine. We were lucky to have Amy showing us the “old vines wines” which are outstanding and her knowledge and passion are second to none.

A fleeting trip just for lunch (no time for tasting) but we liked what we saw. It felt like being invited onto a private station with a gorgeous homestead and just making yourself right at home under the verandah or in the grounds. Everyone there looked 110% relaxed. Their clever limited pie-focussed menu is all you really need but we would say whilst the pastry was moreish, it actually needed MORE filling to make it a really good pie. It felt pretty empty actually. And the accompanying salad felt a bit ‘flat’. It read well on the menu but didn’t present as well on the plate. Lovely rosé, lovely atmosphere, lovely place to return to at some later stage but I just hope we don’t end up at the table positioned right on top of the doorway again, as that was a seriously silly place to having dining customers with everyone coming and going.

Enjoy a unique and fascinating journey of discovery of Yalumba’s Cooperage; the only on-site winery Cooperage in Australia and one of five in the world. Our Cooperage experience begins with a short introduction of the winery and our family owners the Hill-Smiths. Enjoy a rare insight into the craft of wine barrel making, a tradition that has been happening at Yalumba for over 100 years. Depending on the time of year you will likely see firsthand the Coopers hard at work preparing or maintaining wine barrels for Yalumba’s fine wines*. Return to our Wine Room for a tasting with our Ambassador of five wines from our portfolio, featuring varieties iconic to both Yalumba and the Barossa.

We were greeted by our very friendly and knowledgeable guide who led us past some historic photos of the original owners of the winery and into the world famous Barrel Room. After some short commentary we were given a small sample of Port out of the barrels from our year of birth. Just being there with all that history was amazing. The whole experience was wonderful and one we would recommend to anyone who loves their Port and has an appreciation for history. Thanks for an incredible experience.
