Mansions and majestic hotels serve as reminders of Bar Harbor’s past (in the 19th century, it was a favorite vacation spot of society’s upper crust). Today, visitors kayak, explore Acadia National Park, go bird- or whale-watching, and enjoy salty sea air and sandy beaches.

Showcasing Russell D'Alessio who is known for his colorful expressionist figurative works this Bar Harbor, Maine artist has been a living, working Maine resident for four decades. Fascinated by people, their movements and expressions, his spontaneous abstract use of paint and composition entwined with his sense of humor express bold gestures with subtle expressions.
I walked by this beautiful art gallery and am so happy I decided to go in. The art work is beautiful, very impressive and there is such a vibrant energy once you enter and take it all in. You're nicely left alone to look at the art work, but I made it a point to ask about it. I met Linda, the wife of this beautiful artist and I was able to meet Russ the artist himself the next day. They are such an amazing lovely couple and made me feel so welcome! Russ explained some of his art work to me and how this process is a journey for him each and every time. In addition, there is a screen that shows the process of Russ creating his painting. I highly recommend you set foot into this gallery. You can stroll for a couple of minutes or probably stay an afternoon, but I guarantee either way it will be worth your while.

Owners Shawn and Lorin were both so helpful and personable! Their two family operated gift shops in Bar harbor really stand out above the rest with great service, helpfulness, and the merchandise stood out too. So glad we visited both stores. And like many other stores in Bar Harbor, they welcomed our pup inside to shop. ????

I was looking for interesting art for my backyard, and came across Ernie's and found the most ornate steampunk art. I could not believe the detail that went into each piece. I ended up speaking with Ernie for a long time sharing stories of world travels and buying a motorcycle piece. We were due with a baby soon and he gave us a small perfume bottle he used to decorate the motorcycle with that he acquired in Nepal in his travels for our baby girl. I loaded a bunch of pictures to help him get his brand out there as his art is surely missed by many passing cars. Do stop in please.

The Abbe Museum shares the history and culture of Maine’s Native people, collectively known as the Wabanaki (Penobscot, Passamaquoddy, Micmac, and Maliseet), and operates from two locations in Bar Harbor. At our downtown location, visitors find dynamic exhibitions and activities interspersed with spaces for quiet reflection. At the Abbe’s historic trailside museum at Sieur de Monts Spring, guests can experience early 20th century archaeological discoveries informed by 21st century science. The downtown Abbe Museum serves guests year-round, while the Sieur de Monts Spring location is open seasonally from mid-May to mid-October. Admission includes both locations. Located in an historic downtown district, we offer clean restrooms, several nearby restaurants and Bar Harbor attractions, and nearby motorcoach parking. Other amenities may be offered with notice. The History of the Abbe Museum: First opened to the public in 1928, the Abbe Museum is named for its founder, Dr. Robert Abbe, an eminent New York physician and beloved summer resident of Bar Harbor. During the 1920s, Dr. Abbe assembled a collection of early Native American artifacts found in the Frenchman Bay area which launched the museum at Sieur de Monts Spring. In 2001, we opened our second facility in a renovated historic landmark in downtown Bar Harbor. Today, the Abbe offers changing exhibitions and a robust programming schedule for all ages. Our museum shop is a destination for unique gifts and art and shipping is offered.
Don't miss this place! Fascinating and sobering Native American history with a beautiful presentation. I haven't learned this much in a single trip to a museum in a long time. Something for everyone here. Great for a rainy day or just a relaxing activity between visits to Acadia.
