Things to do in Bangkok, Thailand: The Best Classes & Workshops

April 2, 2022 Agatha Simes

Golden palaces, floating markets, majestic porcelain-laid spires…you've never seen a capital city quite like Bangkok. Visit Pratunam or Siam Square for premium shopping, then unwind in the European-style gardens of Dusit. Thon Buri is home to the awesome Wat Arun temple, and over in Phra Nakhon, you’ll find the Wat Pho temple of the Reclining Buddha. Savor mango sticky rice at a food stall before taking in the gilded splendor of the Grand Palace.

Courageous Kitchen

The Courageous Kitchen is an experience that takes you shopping in a local market before teaching you to prepare your favorite Thai dishes. We'll start the day in the market, nab a few street snacks, and then begin creating the menu you help select. Classes are purposely small and intimate, and the best part is proceeds from classes go toward a great cause!

This was a great custom cooking class that we had taken with Alina!! I enjoyed the market tour, and bought a few things along the way. When we first booked ourselves in for the class, we wanted to try a few different things, and taking our suggestions in mind, Dwight and his team created a Northern Thai menu for us including making our own red curry paste, sai oua (Northern Thai sausage, pork + red curry paste), nam prik ong (homestyle pork + tomato dish), khao soi (red curry coconut soup + egg noodles), and of course mango sticky rice for dessert. The class was really informative, and Alina took the time to answer all my questions (and trust me, I ask a lot of questions!!). For example, she explained why we needed 2-3 different types of chilis in a curry paste, and that using kaffir lime peel sparingly is enough to pack a punch, whereas I would have added all the peel! After we were done with the class, it was nice to have a chat with Dwight & Christy about their company, and what they do for the community. While there are lots of cooking classes other there, offering both standard and customized menus, we chose to go with Courageous Kitchen because the money goes back to the community - their efforts are focused on helping communities in need, through kitchen and nutrition education, providing food, and providing a safe place for personal development. I can't think of a better place where our money can be refocused to help those in need. Kudos to Courageous Kitchen!!
