The most attractive feature of Avila. Very well maintained formidable walls. For five euro, you are given access to parts of the upper walls for a great walk.

Did the city walls walk and exited at the rear of the city and crossed the road and took in the Roman Bridge and you can walk under it along the river and then climbed the hill here to get an unparalleled view of the city. You can also take in a small church on the way back. Great way to spend your day

One of the most prominent plateresque/renaissance palaces of the city is positioned on Calle Lope Nunez, a street that leads into the old town from the Gate of San Vicente. Construction of granite ashlar work was ordered by noble Suero del Aguila in 1521 and was finished in 1534. Building is flanked by two very low towers which show that it was used for defence purposes of the sensitive north-eastern area of the city. It was designated a National Monument in 1976 and is currently used as the UNESCO, Municipal Archive and the Department of Heritage and Tourism. Mentioned institutions use its interior halls and rooms but everyday passengers can visit two floored cloister, with arcades decorated with flowers and coats of arms from the various lineages of Avila. Entrance is free and during my visit there was a modern art exibition.
