Carrbridge Golf Club

Reviewed By neilmO1832SQ

Played the course a few days running at the end on October, winter greens in operation due to the frost. The club house was closed & an honesty box in operation. Met a few of the memebers who were all very friendly and helpful. It’s a 9 hole & relatively short course but a good test of golf. The greens looked in excellent condition although I didn’t get to play them due to the frost. Would definitely look to play it again if I was up there in the summer. A credit to the members & committee.

Exceptionally well kept, this 18-hole 6031 yard (par 70) Speyside golf course has inspired generations of Highland golf enthusiasts and is playable with comfort and pleasure by average and good players alike. Designed by James Braid, and laid out on the ancient flood plain of the River Spey, Newtonmore Golf Course provides easy-going parkland golf with mountain views all round. Just played two rounds of golf at Newtonmore. Playing in a 3 it was easy to get round in under 3.5 hours. Course was in excellent condition with some stunning scenery. Staff in the pro shop and clubhouse were very helpful and friendly. Would recommend Newtonmore to anyone visiting this area.

Macdonald Spey Valley Championship Golf Course

The Spey Valley Championship Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 72 course that meanders through ancient Caledonian pine forests and along the banks of the sparkling River Spey. Some of our holes are famous for their outstanding natural beauty; our 5th hole boasts the longest hole in Scotland (at 635 yards) and our 6th spans a lake which has been adopted as a nesting site by a bird colony. When you reach the 12th at the start of the home stretch, the Spey Valley opens up before you like a film set, whilst the 16th presents a real challenge for even the most experienced golfer. You'll need a long, accurate tee shot to carry the water hazard and the flowering purple heather is standing by to punish a poor shot. However, the most spectacular of all has to be the 18th; with its two bunkers designed to mirror the undulating corries of the mountains beyond, this is our raison d'être.

I am sure this golf course is missed by many who are attracted to the bright lights of golf in the Highlands such as Castle Stuart, Dornoch and Skibo Castle. However, this is an absolute must if you are in the area. You will drive past it if you are heading up the A9 to Inverness so it is an easy pit stop and worth every second. Excellent value for money and at £90 is pennies on the dollar compared to some of the other courses in the Highlands. The drive in is hidden away and can easily be missed, but once you are there it is in a world of it's own. The clubhouse is like new and we had great food before our golf (Don't miss Brooks Koepka's scorecard on the wall). Pedro in the golf shop was a huge help when it came to course info as this was our first visit. Well done to Pedro on upselling buggies which we might not have made it back without! You can be let off for being slightly underwhelmed by the 1st, although at 340 yards downwind it is a nice simple opener. The hike to the 2nd (if you're walking) is well worth it as the course opens up to you. You find yourself miles, literally, from the clubhouse when you finish the 610 yard par 5 5th and then the fun really begins. Back into the wind for 6 of the next 8 holes, it might be the toughest stretch of holes I have played. 12 would fit in as a long par 4 on any course on the PGA Tour and give the pros a test. The overwhelming feeling round here is how beautiful the place is. This is a Dave Thomas masterclass not to be missed.
