Válega church is a true masterpiece of tile painting art and surely one of the remarkable churches in Portugal! On sunset the church facade, facing west, is particularly beautiful, bathed by sunlight. A true golden temple that sparkles with its amazing tiles of many colours. The patronage of the church belonged to private owners until 1150. Válega is located 6,5 km away from the city of Ovar and it sure deserves a visit!
It's a not that known gem in the country. Beautifully tiled church in a tiny village and the interior is also imponent with painted walls, wooden ceiling and the cemetery adjacent to it is also an "attraction".

Came here for a few hours with my boyfriend and our friend, the castle is located in a lovely town at the top of the hill offering great views of it below. The grounds are beautifully kept and the castle itself is in great condition, plus your able to walk inside and up to the top. This is my second time here and I'd definitely come again. The church next to the castle is also beautiful and worth a visit.

This was my second time attending this most famous medieval fair. Its magical and we love seeing the performers staying in character all day. Food and drinks can be a little pricey and very traditional, so we tend to pop in at the local store near the entrance of the fair to buy snacks and drinks. The entertainment is fantastic, minstrel's everywhere, dancing groups, strange ancient instruments being played and the much loved drumming groups. You can buy a love potion, candles, dream catchers, clothes, incense and all manner of everything magical from dragons to fairies, jewelry to scrolls bearing your Portuguese surname and origin. Even have your hair braided into a medieval style if you wish. Whether you are there for the food, entertainment and people or wanting to find an exotic magical gift for someone, this is the place. There are so many stalls to go visit, each one different and unique. I will be there again next year.

This monastery is worth a visit. It’s easier to visit the church (during the opening time, the entrance is free. For visiting the monastery – cloister, kitchen, chapter house, cells, museum, etc. there are only guided visits (every 40/45 minutes) – be sure that you go inside because there are very interesting things to see. When you finish the visit go to one of the cafes and taste the monastic pastry. Enjoy!
