As home to majestic mountains, opulent palaces, and high culture, Austria's attractions are classically sumptuous and enduring. But beyond the waltzes, the strudels, the alpine summits, and Habsburg architecture, its modern cities are proof of just how easily Austria combines the contemporary with the historic.

We came here several times to commute while we were on holidays back in January 2018. Great service to Zell-am-see, Bad Hofgastein and Bad Reichenhall across the border in Germany! Lots of stores as well, including Spar....(loved their fresh Orange Juice!) where one can get goodies and snacks for the train! Staff were very welcoming, courteous and patient, and explained everything. They even helped us out by giving us the cheapest options which we would not have known, had we just followed the info online on the OBB website!

Extremely well organized and efficient. The maps and the signs are very easy to follow, we particularly liked the way the stations that can be reached from the two platforms are signposted. You can buy your tickets ate every U-Bahn station, do it before you pass the little machines in which you must validate your ticket before starting your journey. U-Bahn can take you practically anywhere in central Vienna, the stations are not too distant from one another and the trains come in every 3-4 minutes.

We purchased a 7 day travel card for 17 euros each, which gave us access to trains, U-Bahn, Trams and buses. We used the trams quite a few times and they are a delightful way to travel. They allow you to see the real parts of Vienna, are punctual and very clean. There are maps that show you all the routes and where they stop and there are announcements and displays explaining what the next stop is. We thoroughly enjoyed them and the older style ones were particularly nice.

Very comfortable train, dual-deck coaches. Apart from the ticket itself, do book a seat reservation for seats numbered >100, they're on the upper level which has the advantage of much better view to the Austrian countryside.

With a journey time of only 16 minutes from Vienna Airport to the city center, the City Airport Train is the fastest way to travel – without stress and traffic jams and in an environmentally friendly way. The CAT commutes between Vienna International Airport and Wien-Mitte station every thirty minutes non-stop, from early morning to late at night, 365 days a year. Passengers can already check in their baggage at the City Air Terminal at the railway station Wien-Mitte and get their boarding passes. The City Air Terminal offers all the services of an international airport terminal with both manned check-in desks and self service check-in kiosks.
City checkin & fast train. Best option. And much cheaper then Uber or taxi. To be recommended. Great service

We visited Salzburg and bought a Salzburg card. Great value for money. We travelled out of town, back and forth from airport, and around city centre. Buses were clean, punctual and easy to use. I’d recommend using the Obus from the airport and around the centre.
