Every year thousands of hipsters, groupies, and die-hard fans flock to Austin for the annual South by Southwest festival, which has catapulted the Texas city up the must-visit charts for many travelers. The sandstone Capitol building is symbolic of the Lone Star State’s "bigger is better" mentality, featuring a gorgeous whispering gallery rotunda and 22 acres of grounds. Cool off with a dip in Barton Springs, a huge natural limestone pool that’s fed by underground sources.

Found St Mary’s only a few blocks from hotel and knew I needed to say a few prayers. Gorgeous place of worship on Veterans Day. Father Eduardo did a wonderful job in the service and on his sermon. Loved his energy—and his accent!

The temple and surrounding is beautiful. Many Indians visit there. Delicious Indian lunch is served as Prasad in afternoon.

We saved this space for last at the end of our Austin trip. It is tucked away in the hills, and when you get there you’ll immediately appreciate it. It was beautiful and quiet. We took time to soak in the temple, as well as get some meditation time in. There are statues of Buddha from around the world. Incredible display. Make time for this space.

This memorial is one of the newer and more impressive of the many monuments that surround the Capitol. It is a bronze bas relief monument that is divided into sculptural scenes from different eras of the African-American experience in Texas, from Spanish colonial times through slavery, reconstruction, civil rights and to the present. Extensive narrative plaques summarize each era.
