Things to do in Austin, Texas (TX): The Best Food & Drink

February 7, 2022 Augustus Redeker

Every year thousands of hipsters, groupies, and die-hard fans flock to Austin for the annual South by Southwest festival, which has catapulted the Texas city up the must-visit charts for many travelers. The sandstone Capitol building is symbolic of the Lone Star State’s "bigger is better" mentality, featuring a gorgeous whispering gallery rotunda and 22 acres of grounds. Cool off with a dip in Barton Springs, a huge natural limestone pool that’s fed by underground sources.

Still Austin Whiskey Co

Still Austin Whiskey Co. is a homegrown grain-to-glass distillery in the heart of Austin, and we use only Texas-grown grains. Every step of our process is performed with a ridiculous level of care and attention, which you can taste in our spirits. Seriously. We are a ragtag collection of whiskey obsessives, gin enthusiasts, sustainability wonks, and good friends. We nerd out about the theory of élevage and heirloom grain varieties. But, you know, in a cool way.

Booked in for a whiskey tasting experience one friday afternoon whilst visiting Austin. Amazing experience! slightly expensive but for what we were trying it was totally worth it. Stopped by the back deck afterwards and had a drink with some 'locals'. Definitely worth the visit

One of the few places during Covid that feels safe to eat at. Excellent pizza and salad, and I love their sour beers and the country vibe. They have moved the tables out of the barn and keep them spaced 12 feet or more apart. Staff seem to be very attentive to cleanliness. We always enjoyed Jester King before the pandemic (but not mid-summer) and look forward to returning when the weather cools.

The Austin Winery

The Austin Winery a is boutique, urban winery and tasting room, 10 minutes from downtown Austin. As a small urban winery, we rely solely on family-owned growers, from the best growing regions of Texas & California to source our grapes. We handcraft our artisanal wines in small lots, ensuring delicate blends with nuanced flavors of fruit and spice, balanced expertly with acidity and earthiness. Our AVA designate wines are pure expressions of their terroir, something we take great pride in. CEO & President, Ross McLauchlan, has focused the young team's efforts on making approachable, high quality wines that fit with Austin's culture, climate, and cuisine in a snob-free setting.

Wonderful place for wine tasting! Very friendly people with some of the most amazing wines I've ever tried. We love to explore new things and expand our palates but also love a great classic wine as well. This place hits it out of the park on both. They have nibbles available too if you need a bit. The location is a commercial warehouse area but there are other great things to do there as well - there's a restaurant and distillery too.

Kind of out of the way, but worth finding this brewery. They had an awesome line up of beer. Darts, pin pong, foosball, and other games. I enjoyed a flight of 3 Belgian style beers and an outstanding porter. Best beer of the weekend. The grouped enjoyed out short time in the brewery.
