Things to do in Auckland, North Island: The Best Food Tours

July 26, 2021 Rebbecca Marino

The Māori call Auckland Tāmaki Makaurau — a maiden desired by 100 lovers, and a valuable territory fought over for centuries for its fertile land and natural harbors on the Pacific Ocean (to the east) and Tasman Sea (to the west). Today, it’s New Zealand’s largest city: A vibrant and diverse place where nature and urban life go hand-in- hand, with 48 volcanic cones, more than 50 islands, and 29,000 km of coastline and beaches just minutes away from the arts and shopping of the central city.

We had Ezy Driver pick us up from the Auckland airport early afternoon and take us to a private glow worm excursion in Waitomo. In order to make it to our excursion we had to carry all of our luggage with us in the vehicle (as our hotel wasn't ready for check in before we had to leave). The drive was 3 hours south into NZs north island. There were 5 of us and we rode in an 11 passenger minivan, it was spacious and clean and fit all of our luggage. Our driver was informative about the area and stopped to let us have lunch at a really good local cafe. He waited with our luggage for the 3 hour glow worm excursion and then drove us back to Auckland to our hotel. Our belongings were safe and our driver was attentive to our needs. Ezy Driver is highly recommended!

I just wanted to thank you for making the food tour happen especially for us at such short notice and accommodating our tight schedule. As you predicted, we loved spending the afternoon with Jono who is passionate and knowledgeable about Auckland and has a charming engaging personality. He not only accommodated our diets but he ended our tour on a sweet high note with hokey pokeys from Giapo. This was on my husband’s ‘must go to’ list.

I had the best day on Waiheke Island seeing places I would of not ever known about...the tour was amazing as it was based on my preferences and If you go even as a small group I fully recommend booking with magic carpet. I went over for the day from Auckland CBD and Neville took me on a customised private tour that included a couple of beach stops, a couple of wineries an art gallery even the market. He is very knowledgable and I got to learn a lot about the island and explore, I'm so glad to have had this tour round the island. I will be recommending neville and magic carpet to friends and family or nayone doing a dya on Waiheke, it really was the best way to get around and with plenty of photo stops too. Perfect day out for any aucklandlers wanting to get away from city life for the day too.
