The Māori call Auckland Tāmaki Makaurau — a maiden desired by 100 lovers,
and a valuable territory fought over for centuries for its fertile land and
natural harbors on the Pacific Ocean (to the east) and Tasman Sea (to the
west). Today, it’s New Zealand’s largest city: A vibrant and diverse place
where nature and urban life go hand-in- hand, with 48 volcanic cones, more
than 50 islands, and 29,000 km of coastline and beaches just minutes away
from the arts and shopping of the central city.

Established in 1890, Alexandra Park is home to the Auckland Trotting Club and one of New Zealand’s premier venues to experience harness racing at its best. Since the 1950’s Aucklanders and visitors to the region have been enjoying Friday Night Trots under lights which has established Alexandra Park Raceway as an Auckland Instititution. All day and evening cafe dining options include the Alex bar and eatery which is adjacent onsite TAB betting outlet. With large scale, onsite events facilities, Alexandra Park is also a favourite function and conference venue with a wide array of quality food and beverage offerings.
Hard to beat the value here - free entry! Our first Auckland Cup New Years’ Eve experience and it was great. Facilities are tidy, food and beverage service are well organized and the whole setup is professional and fit for purpose. Meals were extremely good value in a Club type style and quality. Free fireworks were impressive particularly with how close you are to them. Being a regular attender at the New Zealand Cup, the Christchurch equivalent, I expected a slightly bigger occasion in all regards. The fashion was as modest as the crowd size, and while the track setting is very pleasant, I expected bigger in Auckland. Sadly they’ve sold a big prime part of the site to apartment developers who have since collapsed and left half finished towers onsite. A very good experience.

This mega complex has two casinos, restaurants, bars, hotel, theater and the 1,000-foot high Sky Tower, the tallest tower in the Southern Hemisphere, which offers magnificent views and bungee jumping. The casinos offer favorite table games such as Blackjack, Baccarat, Jai Sai and Roulette plus more than 1,200 slots and gaming machines.
My wife and I recently had a great experience at SKYCITY's Adelaide (Australia) Casino. A very dear friend (Miss Lien) suggested that, if we liked SKYCITY Adelaide, we would also like SKYCITY Auckland, so we decided to heed her advice. Well, Miss Lien, I hate to say it, but you were NOT wrong. My wife and I both retired from working in the mining industry a few years ago, and we love (and can afford) to have a bit of a flutter. We have visited quite a few Australian casinos in our retirement - some good - some not so good. SKYCITY Auckland is very, very good. Not only are the casino hosts and staff attentive and courteous, the croupiers are also more friendly. My wife now likes "Lunar Poker" more than "Caribbean Stud" poker! I guess we will just have to come back to Auckland. We are very impressed.
