This is a great sandy beach. The car park is a little way from the beach and one has to be aware of when high tide is as the access is restricted at high tide.

Wonderful range of restaurants, takeaways, bakery, library, ice creams. Stunning scenery and lovely walk along the waterfront. Great views of Rangitoto.

My wife and myself are currently holidaying in Auckland staying at the lovely Emerald Inn in Takapuna (Review to follow) which is not much more than a hop, skip and a jump from Takapuna Beach. This is about a mile long and probably - particularly amongst the dog-walking community - one one of the most popular North Shore beaches. I certainly enjoy my morning and evening walks and would encourage others in the vicinity to do likewise!

Driving to the end of the road can be bit hectic for some people as it is dirt gravel road and rather narrow at places. But once you get there, it is absolute bliss. You can go hiking on Hillary Trail, or stroll in the long beach, go see some caves, play with birds, or picnic or just chill in the laps of nature. There's plenty to do for the entire day. We hiked on top of the ridges and walloped in the water. A caution if you plan to get into the water, be very careful as there are under currents strong.
