I started going to the Athens Farmers Market decades ago when it brought people together on the old airport runway, now long-gone under tennis courts and a skateboard park. Now the largest year-round farmer's market in the state is about to move again. But what will always be a constant is the opportunity to access healthy local foods and the rich local community of vendors and customers. It is a meeting place, a crossroads for the diverse city and county, university and farmer, student and older adult communities to come together. So bring a bag for carrying home vegetables, local honey, fantastic bread and funky Avalanche pizza creations, herbs, soap, and naturally some local tortilla chips and popcorn.

Located in the beautiful Athens County countryside, Dutch Creek Winery specializes in fruit wines and honey wines (aka mead). DCW creates fruit and honey wines unlike any you may have tried before - light, refreshing and drier than most other honey-based wines. DCW also offers a New England style dry hard cider and homemade non-alcohol honey soda.

This winery is so much fun and has a gorgeous view. The owners are extremely nice and you can tell they have a passion for making great wine. The tastings are fun and their appetizers are yummy!

They have great beers, which you would expect from a small local craft brewery. I tried two of them and both of them were top notch. I sat outside, although it was 39° outside, and they were more than happy to start a fire in the fire pit to warm things up. It quickly filled up with lots of beer drinkers and everyone said their beer was great. I didn’t eat there.

We went to Devil's Kettle on the last day of Brew Week. I was pleasantly surprised because their beer was very good and they had a nice variety of beer. When this place was first open, I didn't like their beer, but there is now a nice variety of beer for both men and women.
