My wife and I visited the Musee Departemental Arles Antique during our two day trip to Arles this past March. It is a wonderful museum with a large number of archeological pieces (statues, sarcophagi, base reliefs, mosaics, etc.). The best feature is the Roman barge that was dug out of the Rhône River and the video of its restoration. It is well worth spending 2 or 3 hours in to gain a better understanding of historic Arles.

The Manuel Rivera-Ortiz Foundation for Documentary Photography & Film encourages a new generation of photographers and filmmakers, armed with only a camera and a vision of a better world, to take to the streets and document humanity on the move. The foundation's mission is to support photo and film reportage as a catalyst for change and social justice in communities where needs are most pressing.

Musee Reattu is not a huge museum but it's a nice spot to spend part of your day and enjoy it too. There are some really beautiful works of art, including paintings, sculptures, drawings and photographs. Not everything may be fantastic but you will not be disappointed.

Exhibition from 7 October 2017 to 2 April 2018 : La Vie Simple - Simplement la Vie / Songs of Alienation Open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 11am to 6pm. Last admissions 45 minutes before closing. Vincent van Gogh is a pivotal figure in the art of the 20th century. His oeuvre continues to influence artists and exert an unprecedented magnetism upon the public right up to the present. It was in Arles that Van Gogh produced - within the space of just 15 months between February 1988 and May 1888 - his finest masterpieces. Inaugurated in April 2014, the Fondation Vincent van Gogh Arles pays due homage to the work of Van Gogh while at the same time exploring his impact upon art today. This relationship with contemporary art was enshrined within the principles of the Fondation right from its conception. By presenting the painting of the Dutch master in the context of works by contemporary artists, the Fondation aims to stimulate a fruitful dialogue centred on interrogation and reflection.
Visiting Arles this fall was a real treat, I was guiding my ART TOUR through the streets and onto the Foundation to view a rare viewing of Van Gogh originals. It was a beautiful exhibition.

The Espace Van Gogh is the location of the hospital where Van Gogh was treated for his ear. It looks very similar to the way it looked when Van Gogh was there.
