The lady running the gallery on both occasions we went in could not have been more helpful in assisting us with our purchase. She arranged several large picture in different parts of the gallery so that we could see them in different light conditions. The gallery supports a number of excellent local artists and the result is an eclectic mix of art forms that complement each other so that there are things to indulge every taste. The best gallery in town by a mile.

Fully OPEN pre-booking not required. The health and well-being of our visitors and team is our highest priority and special arrangements will be in place for the foreseeable future. Step back almost two centuries and discover the stories of the real men, women and children who were tried and served their sentences in this prison. Visit the Courtroom; explore the Cells in the Old and New Prisons; try out the wooden beds and hammocks; sample the punishments; experience the Whipping Table; take your turn at the Crank Wheel. Meet the Warder and Prisoners and get locked up in the Airing Yards. Listen to dramatic true tales from the characters in the Jail’s past brought to life with our FREE interactive audio guides. Available in six languages.
Really warm welcome as soon as we entered the jail - unusual thing to notice at this kind of attraction! - and a fun chat about how welcome dogs are. We didn't have a dog but it seemed a good feature to us, rather than making them stay in a car! The audio guide was extremely good: informative and provided a purposeful and fun way to take in all the information, which was added to nicely by the costumed guides strategically positioned. Lots to see - but not too long - interactive in places too: the photo booth is a fun idea, sitting in the court, trying out the hammocks etc were all engaging. Decent shop at the end. Fully recommended.

Castle House Museum gives you the opportunity to discover the interesting history of Dunoon and surrounding areas. With views of the Clyde second to none, we host an extensive and fascinating range of exhibits spanning from the early days of the town up to modern times.
We spent a really great time in the Castle House Museum. We were visiting Dunoon in a bit of a nostalgic return having spent many summer holidays there as a child staying grandparents. John gave us a warm welcome and provided excellent advice and help and was the perfect person for the job. His wealth of local knowledge was matched by his knowledge of the contents of the museum and he was very helpful and went out of his way to help answer some queries we had.

There are more than 800 prehistoric and historic monuments within 10 miles of Kilmartin Village. This extraordinary concentration and diversity of monuments distinguishes the Kilmartin Glen as an area of outstanding archaeological importance. It is one of Scotland’s richest prehistoric landscapes. The Museum Gallery and shop are closed at Kilmartin Museum for the duration of the Redevelopment Project during 2021 & 2022. In spring 2021 we will be opening a 'Pop-up' cafe on site which will have an outdoor seating area and information about places to visit in the Glen. Educational activities and guided walks will continue within Covid-19 guidelines, so please visit our website or Facebook page for further information on our activities and the Redevelopment Project.
A must if you want to understand the archaeology of Kilmartin Glen - interesting displays and a cafe and shop as well - good base from which to explore and offer guided walks of the local area too.
