Can, getting to know the city, its architecture, history and traditions, be interesting and not boring at all? Well, difficult, specially if we talk about San Sebastian (Basque Country, Spain) so beautiful city, that just see it leaves breathless. When I came to live to San Sebastian in 2006 I was totally impressed by the beauty of this town, however I did not discovered the soul of the city until I experienced the unrivalled city tour with Ikusnahi this summer. We have been walking around the city with Ania, who explained everything in such amazing and interesting way, natural and very funny at the same time! She left space for open discussion for you to begin to discover for yourself, in an imperceptible way, that you know the city more deeply, understanding the local culture and people much better.

My friend and I did this tour in Sept 2020. Because of Covid travel restrictions, it was only the two of us. Our guide was very friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. We stopped by the Marché des Capucins first and tried the “well of love” pastries at one shop. Then, proceeded to a wine/cheese vendor. The market was quite busy! Can’t imagine what it’s like when travel isn’t restricted. The locals are very friendly. The food/wine sampled was phenomenal. The tour was only available at 10:30am and there quite a bit of wine so just something to be mindful of. From there, we proceeded to another wine shop which we unfortunately did not enjoy. We sampled two wines there but the atmosphere and the wine were not to our liking. Next, we went to a pastry shop and sampled lots of local desserts. It was quite lovely. Then, we proceeded to another chocolate shop and sampled a few pieces there as well. Overall, the tour is a bit expensive but Bordeaux is an expensive city. It was a really good experience and I would recommend it to family/friends.

If you are in the Sarlat area, you simply must book this tour. Our hosts were delightful, knowledgeable, and passionate about the Perigord area, wines, food, etc., and were so accommodating to every wish. We fit in more sights and experiences than I thought possible for a day tour, and I am thrilled that we fit so much into the day. We would never have found some of these unique experiences on our own, and it is very nice to sit back and enjoy the ride with locals who can point out the sites and organize so many special visits. The group was small (only two couples and our two hosts) which allowed for easy transportation and great conversation. The lunch was delicious, and honestly, it would take too long to list all the wonderful stops we made, so read the itinerary and sign up for this tour. You will have a fabulous time!

We visited as a couple in September. The booking process and welcome were good. The tour guide was new to the role and might have been nervous but the talks were dry difficult to understand. she used a portable PA system but failed to hold the mic at a consistent distance and also spoke extremely quickly so we missed much of the detail. We did ask her to slow down but she didn’t.The most useful bit of the tour was the short film shown, and explained, back in the shop at the end of the tour. The bit where three volunteers are invited to get into a pool to wrestle a male sturgeon out of the water and hold it aloft for photos we thought was just plain cruel. The caviar itself left us non plussed and my wife left hers. On reflection we thought that the whole trade is a bit like the Emperors new clothes in that people get excited about it because it’s the thing to do rather than really enjoying it, put a bit of salty sea weed in your mouth and you get the same effect. We can’t recommend the tour, it wasn’t for us but it takes all sorts.

Our Bordeaux food tour is a walking tour around the historical center of Bordeaux. The tourist is guided by a "Foodie", a local "buddy" able to explain every detail of the selected restaurants, their preparations, and the relevant history/curiosities. Do Eat Better tours are a mix of high-quality gastronomy as a way of showing French culture and lifestyle and a walking experience together with a local friend. This is the reason why we accept small groups only: we want to focus on a genuine exchange and give to each tourist the highest attention possible.

We loved our morning. Julie, our guide, worked so hard speaking in both English, for us, and French for the Belgian ladies who were in the tour with us, telling us about Bordeaux (history and current) and wine as well as happily answering our questions. The chateaux were interesting and the wine tasting enjoyable, sitting on a terrace overlooking the vineyards. The second part of our trip was a visit to St. Emilion village, brilliantly guided by Julie. She even kindly dropped us off at the railway station on the way back.

Led by our enthusiastic guide Margot with two lovely local tour guides, Valerie and Mary accompanying us, we enjoyed our food trip in Bordeaux. We sampled a very wide range of sweet and savoury experiences. Most enjoyable were the visit to the wide range of local cheeses, though limited samples provided and the artisan Basque outlet Pierre Oteiza where we returned the next day to sample their lovely produce. A really interesting stop was the olive oil tasting shop on Rue des Ramparts. Margot was full of enthusiasm and all local producers gave us a very friendly welcome. We sampled caneles, noisettes and speciality pastry at Dunes Blanches. In some establishments our local guides received no samples which made us feel a little guilty. There was an interesting wine sampling with a most knowledgeable sommelier at the Cousin et Cité Wine Shop. Our last stop was at the Alsatian bistro, Au Bon Jaja where we had wine but the promised food never materialised. We enjoyed the company of our guide Margot and learned a lot from the lovely Valerie and Mary. One suggestion is perhaps a couple fewer places to visit (we’re more savoury than sweet) and more to eat and drink at establishments. Overall, a lovely way to learn more about the city and its food and wine. We would recommend it.
