The Antofagasta Region (Spanish: Región de Antofagasta, pronounced [antofaˈɣasta]) is one of Chile's fifteen first-order administrative divisions. It comprises three provinces, Antofagasta, El Loa and Tocopilla. It is bordered to the north by Tarapacá and by Atacama to the south and is the second-largest region of Chile. To the east it borders Bolivia and Argentina. The capital of the region is the port city of Antofagasta, another important city being Calama. The main economic activity is copper mining in the giant porphyry copper systems located inland.

We booked a return tour from San Pedro Atacama to Uyuni salt flat. Overall the tour was amazing. We were lucky to have Wilson as our guide. He was driving carefully, giving a lot of info about the sights (in Spanish only), and he is also good at taking photos, which was useful at the salt flats. Communication prior to the tour was good too, Gabriel was always available to answer our questions. The slight downside was dealing with addional requests. Another couple from our group didn't get the private bathroom they paid for. The change of the driver in Uyuni, after the main part if the tour was finished, was a bit of unpleasant surprise. If you join this tour pack soap, sanitiser and toilet paper, as hygenic facilities are basic.

The best tour, We felt very safe and was easy to organise! We traveled with a 3 year old and this was by far the best tour agency and they are not expensive too! She also organises private stargazing tours in the salts. Our guide spoke english and he was a wonderful photographer. He took a million pictures and helped us with those perspective photos and videos too! They don't pack you in a big group. We were a group of four and it was perfect! I like that this tour agency is not money minded. In fact we had to chase her to pay the money. She was very kind and I would absolutely recommend her!

Live a memorable experience !!! Together with the Enjoy Atacama team, in Laguna Lejia there is a population of James, Chileans and Andean flamingos. We will also observe a particular volcanic formation, the maar of Cerro Overo (wide and low volcanic crater, produced by an eruption caused by underground water that comes into contact with hot lava or magma). We continue our route to the Aguas Calientes II Lagoon, the road passes at the foot of several volcanoes and we can also see the constant activity that was millions of years ago. The typical fauna like culpeos foxes and vizcachas are usually observed. Upon arriving in Aguas Calientes we will make a stop to observe the landscape and fauna of the site, then we will visit a unique and surprising place; the Solitary Geyser in which an ice tower is formed inside which water continues to flow out.

I'm afraid to share Emilio who owns and operates Enjoy Atacama...I may never get him back on my next visit. He is truly a great guide. Everything from my first contact to the sad goodbye was perfect. We used Emilio for everything in our 4 day visit. There was no packaged must do things with him. He listened and offered ideas and led us to the most spectacular views. This guy does it all and tailors it to you. He can guide you on great hikes of Guatin valley, and Toco mountain and many more. We just ran out of time. Emilio started his own company after successfully working as a guide for somebody else about 7 years ago. It is easy to see how he has become so successful. He is very knowledgeable, but does not overwhelm you with tour guide talk...he actually lets you lead the conversation. He not only is a great guide, he is a super photographer and goes to great lengths to get the perfect shot for your family and offers all the shots for free. Unfortunately he hurt his leg doing just that for us, but it never stopped him. HE is super flexible and very competitive in his rates. Reach out to him and ask...he literally is willing to do it all.

We climb 5,600 meters above sea level, to the top of the most accessible mountain in Atacama, to discover what lies behind the Andes mountains. We start the hike at 5,200 meters above sea level to reach the summit after almost 2 km of ascent with 400 meters of unevenness. A beautiful view of the volcanoes and altiplano lagoons invite us to enjoy this summit.

Our trip to San Pedro de Atacama, with wife and two friends, was one of our best ever. Much of this great success was thanks to the wonderful day tours (we did 6 of them) and experience provided by SORBAC. We had time to enjoy each of the attractions, very good information (from Culture to Nature) to learn a lot. Food was great as well, and the staff was super friendly!! Thanks a lot!

i booked the 4 tours grado10 offered after a friend recommended me. worth it! even though it’s a bit more expensive than the other companies, it’s much better. the bus/truck is very comfortable, with big reclining chairs (which is a must since some tours leave at 5am and you will want to sleep until you get to your destination), and also very nice during the tours (in some of them you can go on top of it). breakfast is the best as well. the tours are very well organized, leaving earlier than the other companies so you won’t get the places crowded. they also create whatsapp groups to facilitate communication and to send pictures afterwards. our guide George gave us a beautiful picture of the sky when going to the geysers and our guide Barbara was very professional and clear to understand. as a bonus, Luis was a very good chat when we were on the road. their tours were my favourite and i definitely recommend it!

Officially the driest desert on the planet, Atacama is an all year-round destination. Summer days definitely get sizzling hot whilst nights keep a constant low temperature due to the altitudes. The Altiplanic winter consists of afternoon downpours with plenty of electrical storms. Sometimes heavy rains in January and February and snow fall during July and August. (An international permit is not necessary to drive in Chile) A major credit card in the name of the renter (MasterCard, Visa, Diners Club or American Express)

Did this trip in February. To sum it up it consists of 11 hours in a minivan to visit three churches in Chiloe, none of them is interesting unless you are an academic interested in the technical details of wooden church building in the mid 19th century. However good the guides are (and our guide was excellent) this piece of Chile is not worth visiting. The drive to Castro in Chiloe island comprises a 70km motorway run to a ferry and then more than two hours driving along a scruffy, semi industrialised road with no redeeming features to Castro. On arrival the only logical question is "why bother". There are so many beautiful places in Chile I would suggest that people give this excursion a swerve and prevent the total waste of a day of their lives.
