Chatham Saw Mill

Reviewed By AP1729 - Chennai (Madras), India

It costs just Rs10 to enter. There is a japanese bunker( basically a cave), 2 bomb pits , some statues of elephants and tigers , a monument and a mini-museum where there a lot of wooden figures. However, the Saw mill is the main attraction and you can see the various stages of the timber right from putting the logs in water to watching them cut it live.To be honest I was a bit worried, as it looks like a Final destination moment waiting to happen with all visitors coming quite close to the saws. We are supposed to wear helmets but no one provided one!

Viper Island

Reviewed By jannetnorthop - Bengaluru, India

Viper Island derives its name from the vessel H.M.S. Viper in which Lt. Archibald Blair came to Andaman and Nicobar Islands in 1789. The vessel, it is believed, met with an accident and its wreckage was found near the island. It is believed that there were a lot of viper snakes at that time on this island. This small island was the site of the jail where the British used to imprison convicts and political prisoners. It has the ruins of a gallows atop a hillock. Since this jail couldn't accommodate many inmates, the cellular jail was constructed by the British by enslaving the inmates of Viper island jail.
