The former Amsterdam Main Post Office is located on the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal behind the Palace on the Dam. The building was constructed in a mixture of neo-styles, in which mainly neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance elements were used (also called: Post Office Gothic). It belongs to the Top 100 Dutch UNESCO monuments. Today, Magna Plaza is an attractive covered shopping centre with a food plaza and a variety of shops that are open 7 days a week. In these beautiful surroundings, you will find the cheese gift shop of Cheese & More by Henri Willig.

De Bijenkorf meaning beehive, is the most renowned chain of premium department stores in the Netherlands. With flagship stores in Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and Utrecht and smaller stores in Amstelveen, Eindhoven and Maastricht, it’s the favourite shopping destination for Dutch and international visitors. Wander around the store to find the perfect gift for your loved ones, or take a break from shopping to enjoy a fresh cup of coffee at our cafees or restaurants. As a premium shopping destination, de Bijenkorf provides excellent services such as tax free shopping and offers an unrivalled assortment of brands in fashion, cosmetics, shoes, accessories, toys, homeware and much more. Luxury brands include established international designers ranging from Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Hermes and Saint Laurent, to Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein and Hugo Boss.
I admit, I'm a shopper. When I travel, I regularly check out the better department stores in the city's I'm visiting. Here in Amsterdam, it was the city's premier department store De Bijenkorf on Dam Square. A flagship store of luxury goods and top designer brands from around the globe. It's a beautiful store, that's well designed and organized, along with a helpful staff. I was very impressed with the men's department, one of the best I've seen. In addition to fashionable clothing, De Bijenkorf offers a wide range of luxury goods and services, typical of a department store of this quality. De Bijenkorf also offers tax-free shopping for those outside the EU. If you're in the mood to dine, their restaurant's offer a range of options. One of the best department stores I've ever been in.

This historic building of small shops and a Virgin Records store is THE place in Amsterdam to shop for the holidays.
What a great discovery on our arrival in Amsterdam! The food court on the top floor of this gorgeous historic building offers a collection of food outlets and we chose Asian dim sum. The dumplings, spring rolls and gyozas were all delicious and the presentation was colourful and enticing. Much more upmarket than a typical food court in a shopping venue for sure. Not only is the architecture of the Magna Plaza gorgeous with it’s high vaulted ceiling but the building was flooded with light. The location is five minutes or less from Dam Square and we could look back on it and the neighbouring church from our table on the top floor. The collection of shops passed on the way to the food court looked enticing too but we only came for the food.
