Book a session at the unique Silver Portrait Store in the old centre of Amsterdam to capture your likeness in a professional Tintype/Ambrotype studio. The experienced portrait photographers Barend van Herpe and Annemarie van der Heijden use a modern take on a traditional 19th century technique known as Wet Plate Tintype or Black Glass Ambrotype photography. In approximately 90 minutes you will have had a wonderful experience to remember. To create a timeless portrait, traditional skills in camera setup, lighting, timing and chemistry are vital. For each unique, one-off portrait we prepare an aluminium or black glass plate with a light sensitive layer. This wet plate is exposed in a large format camera obscura. After exposure, we invite you into the darkroom to witness first-hand the developing process in all its stages. You will receive the original plate-with-portrait. We also offer high quality framing, scans and fine art barita prints. Bookings also possible besides opening hours.
