Bar Prik

PRIK is hidden in the heart of Amsterdam and offers a friendly, no-nonsense environment where you can come and relax either indoors or on their lovely terrace. The menu consists of yummy bites and surprising drinks - with or without a little ‘prik’ (as prik means bubbels in Dutch). You’ll love the wide variety of unique cocktails like the Strawberry Cheesecake and Dutch Pepper Bomb. And what about the Prik (Prosecco) from tap in white and pink! Prices are just as friendly as the boys serving you. In the weekends this loungy bar turns into a packed out mini dance club, with the exception that there’s never a cover charge, the music is always great and the crowd always fun! Priks DJ’s spin an eclectic mix of vocal dance, hot pop and funky disco. PRIK has been serving Amsterdam since July 2006 and won numerous awards since, like "Best gay&lesbian venue" by Time Out magazine. The crowd is super relaxed and easy to connect with, a mix of all ages and types of locals, expats & visitors.

Once again, the Prik Boys did me proud! After months of playing online quizzes with them, buying their goodies from the online store, it was finally time to use my Prikkie Dik vouchers! As our hotel did not have breakfast included, it made perfect sense to visit Prik for brunch on the two days we were there. There are some adjustments such as hand gels, screens to divide tables, but it's all good. Both ocassions, the brunches were delicious and we left feeling full after them. The prosecco on tap is always our favourite aspect of the bar, as well as the friendly personnel. Thanks to Joe, Marat, Gerson and Phil for two enjoyable brunch experiences. See you soon xx

Happened upon this bar while strolling the neighborhood. The bartender was friendly and fun. We had a great time in this little leather bar. A sure stop no matter what your inclinations.

Taboo Amsterdam

Taboo bar is a favorite hotspot for an after work drink and pre-clubbing cocktail. The evening starts with a daily happy hour from 6 to 7pm. The second happy hour from 1 to 2am is the perfect way to continue your night out when the other bars close. On Fridays they serve free hot snacks to celebrate the start of the weekend. On Wednesdays they have a special cocktailnight with a live dj and reduced prices on selected cocktails. The extended happy hour on Sundays, 6 to 8 pm, is extremely popular and the perfect way to end your weekend. The friendly staff is always willing to play your requested music video on the multiple plasma screens. Taboo bar is a great addition to the wide variety of gay venues in the Reguliersdwarsstraat, the main gaystreet in Amsterdam.

We went here after being recommended it by a bartender in another gay bar that was closing earlier, not too far away. The drinks were cheap for such a vibrant city (in comparison to say, London or Paris) and the music was varied, meaning that there was something for everyone. It's quite a small bar and was quite packed out so at times it's difficult to move around as much as you might like but the close proximity to others means you're very likely to get chatting and make new friends! The toilets are co-ed, shared by women and men. There is an indoor smoking room on the second floor which also gets quite packed and, obviously, smoky, but I suppose this comes in quite handy if you attend this bar during the cold winter months.
