The Saint Maria Church is located just outside of Permet in the village of Leuse. A 3km hike up the mountainside takes you from the center of town directly to the church entrance. The walk has gorgeous panoramic views of the city and its surrounding countryside. Before leaving the city, be sure to stop by the tourism information office and request that the church be unlocked or you'll miss the gorgeous frescoes located inside, which are very well preserved. Paintings decorate every wall and the entire ceiling. Definitely a must-see attraction in Permet!

Loved this square and although, we weren't able to stay until the Christmas market was fully built, it would have been so good! (From what was built) Points of interests are easy to find from this historic square.

Stunning Venetian inspired clock tower just off Skanderbeg Square. Many different types of architecture around the square so definitely worth a look. At 35 metres (115 ft) tall and was the tallest building in the city when it was built in 1822.

Berat is a fascinating medieval town in central Albania. Beneath the commanding hilltop fortress lies the old town divided by the Osumi river into two neighborhoods - Gorica and Mangalem. Mangalem is the part right beneath the fortress and is predominantly Muslim, while across the river is predominantly an Orthodox quarter of Gorica. Both communities live in harmony and peace. During the Ottoman era, those not willing to embrace Islam, had to pay higher taxes to retain their religion. Both neighborhoods are fantastic to explore with unique architecture - houses so close one to another, set on an elevated terrain one window above the another, hence the city's nickname "town of 1000 windows".
