Akumal means "Place of the Turtle" in the Mayan language, and if you snorkel here, you just might see one swimming alongside you. (Don’t touch it, though. That’s prohibited by law.) You’ll definitely see coral and beautiful fish in the clear, sparkling waters. This tourist-friendly little town is about an hour south of Cancun—but it seems light-years away.

We are pleased to announce the reopening of our store of Fine Mexican Handcrafts. During our social distancing we had a lot of extra time to learn and polish up on new cooking skills. We would like to introduce you to our new delicacy of rye bread with pumpkin and sunflower seeds that go wonderful with our vegan cheese style spread with cumin. A perfect combination of flavor to accompany while staying in Akumal or while about sightseeing. Don’t forget we also offer eco friendly and biodegradable cosmetics, so if your needing a toothbrush, lip balm, q-tips and other items, PLEASE DO NOT BUY PLASTIC. Come by our shop and we can provide you with healthy choices for our bodies and the environment. We also have delivery of fresh locally grown Organic Produce on Monday and Thursday, we can introduce you to some very unique fruits & vegetables endemic to the Yucatan Peninsula.

Lamanai was created at the beginning of the 90's as a promotional and sales project for Mexican Folk Art in the Caribbean, from Cancun to Belize. Pre Columbian Art was originally a popular creation that had a specific social function, which has perhaps disappeared through time, yet the desire of the artists that create it lingers on. Improvisation, personality, feeling, and incredible human ability are the qualities that characterize theseartists and artisans whose roots lay in Folk Art. Throughout the years, we have been able to assemble a good working team that has allowed us to expand the original concept, and seek new horizons. In 1999 a little gallery was opened on the Caribbean shoreline, in the beautiful bay of Akumal.

MexicArte offers a wide variety of truly Mexican souvenirs made by individual artisans from throughout Mexico. Items range from tiny, finely made model animals to large, unique original paintings. Everything is hand made and painted and can be chosen in-store and delivered by mail. There is a second MexicArte shops in downtown Tulum and on Tulum Beach road too!
We rented a golf cart for the day and had a fabulous time. They have traditional Mexican crafts and some beautiful leather purses. Prices we're reasonable for what appeared to be nice handmade items. Golf cart rentals were $40 usd per day and we cruised around the town and had a great time. Golf carts seat four and had some room for beach bags and came with a lock as well. Highly recommend!
