Ajaccio, Corsica's main city, is fun to visit at any time of year. But if you're a secret (or not-so-secret) Napoleon Bonaparte groupie, plan to be there on August 15 and join the celebration of the birthday of Ajaccio's most famous son. Casa Buonaparte, Napoleon's family home and birthplace, is worth a visit, as is the town cathedral. Or just enjoy the Corsican sun.

That Square, formerly called Place du Diamant, symbolizes its status as an Imperial City, proud of its history and its illustrious child, Napoleon Bonaparte. In addition, the Square is facing the Mediterranean very well located as right place of life and for walks.

Buzzing place at the center of Ajaccio. There is a market with local produce such as cheeses, salamis, handicrafts. Very well worth buying stuff here to take home. On one day there was a wonderful marching band performing here. Faces the marina. Surrounding the central monument statue are main roads radiating in all directions and plenty of shops and restaurants. The hop on hop off tourist bus starts here

Everyone visiting Ajaccio should make the effort and visit the Place d'Austerlitz with the striking statue of Napoleon gazing over the city. It is easily reached on foot or by the Petit Train d'Ajaccio

My family visited there on June 19. At that time our cruise MS. Azamara Quest anchored at Ajaccio port. Our tourists guide showed and explained about these ancient place. Currently we didn’t enter due to military area. But no limitations for taking pictures. It’s one of the great landmark in Ajaccio, Corsica island.
