Aix, a graceful, lively city, is known for its thermal hot springs, art schools and universities. Wander the Cours, old town and Quartier Mazarin on foot, stopping at cafés, bookstores and markets. Kids whining? Have them count fountains… Aix reportedly has 1,000 of them.

The Corn Exchange is a classical building from the 18th century that shows the importance of the corn trade at at that time. The southern entrance overlooking Place Richelme is decorated with figures of fruits, cereals, and olives representing the function of the building. Today this is the home of the local Post Office.

Le Tour de l’Horloge is adjacent to Place de l’Hotel de Ville in Aix. It contains an astrological clock that dates to 1616. On one of the mornings my wife and visited Aix the square was set up with a flower market. It made for a beautiful setting under the tower.
