A little jewel surrounded with stunning nature and great trucks for walking and running with very pleasant wildlife encounters. The rooms are very clean, the food is sublime while the staff are friendly, very accommodation and well respectful to the Covid19 norms of hygiene and social distancing. Really enjoyed this short stay and we will come back again for sure.

The Chateau de Hodbomont (1764/1779/1870) hides in the beautiful environment around the ancient health resort Spa.It is a private home and offers two spacious, comfortable suites and two double rooms, individual furnished with antiques, as holiday homes. Here is a lot to enjoy, the challenging golfcourse and the sources of Spa, the famous race track Spa Francorchamps (F1), the excellent restaurants in different categories, enchanting routes for walking and hiking....The distance to the old emperor city of Aachen is 50 km, to Liege 15 km, to Maastricht 50 km and to Brussels 120 km. To Spa and also to Verviers the distance is 8 km. The little town Theux with historical centre and nice small shops can be reached by car after 4 km. By foot it is a pleasant walk.
My husband and I booked a 3 night stay at Chateau De Hodbomont from 4th - 7th December. The booking was confirmed by email by and full credit card details were provided to secure the booking. On the morning of what would have been our last night, we took a short stroll around the grounds and got into our car to drive to a local excursion. To our shock and horror, we found ourselves being chased down the road by a car that eventually veered to our side and blocked us in the middle of a busy village. We were the surprised to see the co-owner Herbert, accompanied by his female colleague exit the car in sheer rage charging towards us and proceeding to banging aggressively on the drivers door. Herbert shouted at us in German, which my husband happens to speak, falsely accusing us of trying to escape without paying for our stay. We tried to explain to him that we had booked a 3 night stay and attempted to show him our booking confirmation which he refused to look at and instead continued shouting in his rage that it wasn’t his fault that the mistake was made and that he speaks neither French, Dutch nor English therefore was unable to confirm our length of stay directly with us. Being the only guests that weekend, we also pointed out the obvious - that all our luggage and belongings were still in our room, that a credit card was provided at the time of booking and that a simple question to validate the length of our stay should have been asked prior by his bilingual colleagues. In his rage, he said that his co-owner had advised that we would only be staying for 2 nights. Ironically, the booking confirmation was actually generated from his own email address to which he refused to acknowledge. With all this horror unfolding in full view of spectators, Herbert’s colleague looked at the confirmation and offered a half hearted apology also blaming the co-owner of making the mistake. At no point during this hostile interaction was there an acknowledgment nor a genuine apology for his aggressive behaviour, the humiliation he brought us in full view of spectators and an avoidable mistake that a guest should never have subjected nor blamed for. All we heard were pitiful excuses for his aggressive behaviour and to our dismay, we learned that this behaviour is rather typical and expected of Herbert. We booked our stay in the hope of some level of escape in an idyllic and special property but our experience was completely ruined by the aggressive and highly unprofessional behaviour of a co-owner. As a matter of principle, and given how unwelcome and uncomfortable we were left feeling, we had with no choice but to cut short our stay. We were offered a 50€ discount as some type compensation however, this felt worthless without a simple and genuine apology which could have salvaged this regrettable and avoidable situation. The only genuine apology we received came from Anke, the co-owner with whom we had a very pleasant and professional experience. It is regrettable that she was unfairly made the scapegoat and blamed for the behaviour of her co-owner who is incapable of taking responsibility for his own actions. On this account, we would not recommend staying at Chateau De Hodbomont. There are plenty of local and equally charming properties where guests are not treated like criminals and attacked by a co-owner who clearly needs to step aside from a client facing role.

Wonderful and relaxing farmhouse in the countryside near the village of Theux, Belgium. Very friendly owners, lovely to chat with at breakfast time. It was a great getaway for our family of 4 while we visited Forestia park and some neighboring villages and towns. The family rooms with the loft are perfect for kids! I would recommend this B&B to anyone looking for a quiet weekend away from the big city.

I stayed in this structure for a nice nature discovery weekend. The location is excellent, next to Spa,and in the heart of Theux, a small beautiful town. The room was very spacious and very clean, with all facilities and with a nice view. Traveling in covid times, safety is more important than usual. But it seems in this hotel covid doesnt exist, since the receptionist was no wearing any mask in a small closed space, and gel was absent. It was however replaced in the room by a 1/4 water bottle at 2,20 euros (unacceptable! When it s hot it s appreciated to provide a complimentary water bottle). Moreover, staff was nice but no professional...there was no conversation, didnt ask where we come from and why, didnt ask if she could advice us where to go (and she saw we were looking at the brochures), no support at all. She took the money for the check in, and then we didnt see anybody else for the rest of the staying. Finally, taking into account the service and the equipment (although, again, the room was good) i believe the price is too high. Very small improvements could make this place a great place for unforgettable holidays!

A nice Chateau. A lot of space. A façade of elegance and luxury. The couple that own the place seemed nice but they expect that the place itself will do the job. It is far far from giving a feeling that someone want to host you. Nothing to welcome you. Minimal attention. Old pamphlets and adds, as if to give you useful information. Wi-Fi problems. Noise late at night under your window (by the owners...). When we heard about the breakfast we decided to skip it and went to eat comforting food outside the "palace". We wanted to surprise our son with a real Chateau... The potential is there but what a disappointment.
