Find out what Mediterranean restaurants to try in Milies. Milies (Greek: Μηλιές) is a village and a former municipality in Magnesia, Thessaly, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality South Pelion, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 63.754 km. It is a traditional Greek mountain village, at a height of 400 m on Mount Pelion. It is 28 km from Volos, the capital city of Magnesia. Milies is connected with the GR-34A (Volos - Promyri) It has traditional stone houses, cobbled roads, good restaurants and accommodation in abundance. Milies is also notable for being the terminus of the narrow gauge (60 cm) Pelion Railway, built between 1895 and 1903 by the Italian engineer, Evaristo de Chirico, father of the famous artist Giorgio de Chirico. This proved to be of considerable economic advantage to the region. The recently railway runs between Ano Lechonia and Milies twice a week at the weekend. The village commands striking views across the Pagasetic Gulf and benefits from the many streams and water sources for which Mt. Pelion is renowned. These result in rich vegetation and cool, forested mountain slopes.

The food was bad, everything we ordered was off resulted in all of us having stomach issues. Itâs our fault we didnât complain. The bread was off, the squid was uncleared and reheated, the salad was off (yes the salad was off), the squid with the spinach was off.... Avoid at all cost!

The restaurant occupies the square (plateia) of Vyzitsa, a village about two kilometres from Milies. The plateia is sheltered from the hottest sun by three giant plane trees, and overlooks the deep blue of the Pagasitic Gulf 500 metres below. In the background is the gurgle of the old village fountain (Vrisi). We have been visiting this setting for twenty years to enjoy the distinctive local food. The Giorgaras (I defy you to pronounce the first part of the name, least of all after a few glasses of the local 'Mavro Peliou' wine), is the latest restaurant to open here. We visited with high expectations, and were not disappointed and returned night after night. The service by the family itself is extremely friendly and the prices very reasonable - 20-30 Euros ($27-40) for two, including wine. The quality of the meat is excellent - all locally bred - as is the mainly locally grown vegetable. Their arni lemonato (lamb cooked in lemon) was tender and delicious. So was their speciality 'Chanoum Mpoxa' (stuffed pork in an orange sauce). So was the rabbit cooked with juniper. Meals in Greece are not divided into 'starter, main and dessert', nor are meat dishes accompanied by vegetables. You order either salads or vegetable dishes prepared in olive oil ('ladhera'). We were lucky enough to be present when they hosted a musical feast, in which the souvla'd pork and veal were perfectly tender, moist and delicious. They served the regional succulent speciality 'boubari', to me somewhere between haggis and boudin and not to be missed. The owners of the Giorgaras and musicians made sure everyone had a great time.

A very pleasant surprise. We know the area fairly well and visit frequently for lunch with family and friends. Pileas is a very welcome addition to the selection of tavernas and restaurants in this majestic side of Pelion. The atmosphere was warm and modern (rather than rustic), with an essential fireplace and nice decor, with surprisingly great music adding to the ambience with latest hits from the lounge and electronica scene (played at the right volume). Kids loved the boar meatballs and lamb chops. Good choice of affordable wines, which hopefully will be expanded with more great wines in the future. Last but not least, the ladies serving us were kind and attentive. Theyâll see us again soon!

Visiting the old train station at Milies you can see the station, the train, and have feeling of old (good) times.A lot of memories , the engineer of the train was the Italian Evaristo De Chirico father of painter Giorgio de Chirico (who was born in Greece) For the train was constructed the first reinforced concrete bridge in Greece and more and more..

Its a traditional family tavern with a beautiful view of Pagasiko and Pilio. It has parking and playground for children. The hospitality and service in combination with the traditional dishes offer you a place of nature view of Pilio and Pagasitiko. This
We visited on a Friday night and it was very quiet so we got the owners full attention. We felt very much at home. The wine was very good and the food was prepared with care. I would recommend the excellent Skopelitiki tyropitta. The fyllo was fine and crisp and the filling light and molten. Just right. Everything was highly satisfactory and the price was more than fair. I will be happy to come back and try more

Sited a few kilometres south of Milies, so quiet and not known to everybody. Beautiful garden, friendly service, welcoming complimentary tsipouro, hand-written menu, delicious food based on traditional Greek recipes. Yes, I dare say that it can be quite noisy with a lot of children around, as some contriburors have complained, but then this is Greece!
