Think of this region as the Southern Hemisphere's Switzerland, where snow-capped peaks, dozens of deep mountain lakes and emerald valleys create a fairy-tale landscape. Stretching from the Bio Bio River to the northern edge of Patagonia, it's home to picturesque German-influenced villages like Frutillar, Puerto Octay and Puerto Varas, plus wildlife-rich Vicente Perez Rosales National Park. The culture and handicrafts of the native Mapuche Indians are found in the northern areas around Temuco.

_ Cabanas Anulen Puerto Varas, is located on the way to Calbuco volcano with a spectacular panoramic view of Lake Llanquihue and Osorno volcano. We are in the neutral point between Puerto Varas and Ensenada near the main attractions of the area such as: Llanquihue, Frutillar, Puerto Octay, Osorno Volcano, Lake Todos Los Santos, Peulla, Petrohue, Ensenada, Ralun, Rio Puelo, Puerto Montt, Carreter
We traveled for a long weekend from Brazil, and stayed in the Yurt. It was lovely, cozy, and immaculate. The people that work there are incredibly kind and generous and we did not want for anything. It was a perfect distance to downtown Puerto Varas, and an easy trip to explore the volcanoes and the water falls. We had our own private hot tub, and access to our own barbecue. It was tranquil and wonderful, I would go back again! It was a slice of heaven.

Very comfortable and reasonable 2 bedroom, 2 bath cabins with panoramic sea views in delightful Chonchi! Owner Fresia - who speaks good English - was very helpful in recommending restaurants and day trips, like our trip to see the penguins and dolphins with Quilun Ecotourisml in Queilen! Optional breakfast (small fee) was delicious, filling, and delivered right to our cabin door. Free wifi, very clean, tranquil, and great beds. Best of all, the warmth and kindness of owners Fresia and Nelson. Our favorite place in Chile. Highly recommended!

Palafito Verde invites you to live the experience of living in a traditional palafitte in the neighborhood "Barrio Palafitos de Pedro Montt" in Castro city, Chiloe Island. The neighborhood is nice and calm and also has a variety of tourist services. Palafito Verde offers six furnished apartments, five of them with capacity for four persons and one of them with capacity for six persons. One of our apartments possesses Universal Access. They include parking, Wi-Fi internet access, kitchen, refrigerator, microwave oven, heating, cable TV, 1 double bed and a trundle bed (2 single beds), private bathroom and a terrace or balcony over the sea. They all have a spectacular sight to the sea. It does not include breakfast but the kitchen is ready for cooking and there are a nice Cafe Palafitte very near with breakfast service.
I was charged almost double the published rate for a 5 night stay and was refused a refund when I requested it. Upon check in, I paid a flat amount and was not given an itemized bill or receipt. When I researched the published rate, I discovered the discrepancy in what I paid. The owner said the additional charge was for breakfast and cleaning, which was not included in the standard rate. I explained I was not given the option to decline those services. Also, I was charged the 19% tax that does not apply to me, as I am traveling on a tourist visa. The owner refused to refund this tax or make any other compensation for the amount she overcharged me. In fact, she was very rude and defensive. On top of this, we were given the worst room on the property, with only a very narrow terrace that did not even have room for a chair. Also note, the noise of barking dogs is constant, day and night.

We loved our stay here. Fresia and her husband are wonderful hosts - with local recommendations for hikes and they were also really flexible about our check out arrangements. The cabin was wonderful and cosy, with an incredible, uninterrupted view of Osorno Volcano. We had the most relaxing, peaceful and memorable stay here and would recommend to all travellers who want to experience nature in the beautiful Chilean Lake District.

I have been coming to Chile since 1992 and have been all over the country from Arica to Puerto Montt. I have enjoyed my stay at Silvestre Cabañas more than any other place I have stayed. It isn't the fanciest and doesn't have all the amenities that some places might. What it does have is warmth, value, comfort and location. Plus, it has one other thing that I can be picky about and don't always find in the high-end hotels -- good water flow in the shower. Claudio and Yassna, the owners, are the most welcoming hosts. They made sure that I was comfortable and any need that I had I felt free to ask about. Not there was anything unattended to in the first place, but they can give recommendations on things to do or places to eat. And, in terms of hospitality, they certainly do go above and beyond most proprietors; for example, I was invited to join in celebrating their son's first birthday. Silvestre Cabañas is in a quiet part of town (I slept completely undisturbed), yet just one block from the lake (visible from the entrance) and a nice walk or short drive back to the center of town if that is where you want to head. There are seven cabins here. Most have a wood stove to keep the chill off. Mine had a portable gas heater. All of them have a full kitchen with refrigerator, stove, microwave oven, plus dishes, pots and pans and tableware. So, you are free to fix your own breakfast, or right next door is the Aroma Cafe. My bed was both comfortable and, thanks to plenty of blankets, warm. There was ample room in the closet for clothes. If anything was not quite perfect, it might have been the stiff back on the bench provided for TV watching. But that was in my cabin, not the others and I didn't end up watching any TV anyway. The service is superior. Towels are changed daily, sheets every three days. At the end of the day what I want most is a place I can relax and rest for the next day. You certainly can do that at Silvestre Cabañas, all at a price I'm certainly not going to complain about. This is a good place for solo travelers, couples or small families. It is also a good place for those who want both a view of Volcán Osorno across the lake and, because Silvestre Cabañas is on the east end of town, a short drive to visit the volcano without dealing with traffic congestion one could find in downtown Puerto Varas in the summer time. One last plus, at least for gringos like myself who aren't fully fluent in Spanish, while Claudio and Yassna are Chilenos, they both speak excellent English; Claudio studied in the US, so no language problems here. Even their 4-year old daughter speaks a little English. The 1-year-old baby, not so much.
