Hiking trails and art galleries abound in Stellenbosch, but it's wine that takes center stage. More than 100 wine cellars, most open to the public, surround the oak-lined South African town, and tasting tours operate daily. Winter brings a four-day festival celebrating the local vintages. The historic town center houses the trading-post style shop Oom Samie se Winkel, the Neo-Gothic Moederkerk church, and museums dedicated to toys, military memorabilia, autos and early life on the Cape.

Situated on one of the world's most beautiful mountain passes, Clouds Wine and Guest Estate is one of the jewels of Helshoogte. The relatively small, private estate is a working farm that produces its own wines. It also offers premium guest accommodation that blends designer luxury with all the modcons. A stylish destination surrounded by incredible views, a stay at Clouds is difficult to forget.
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Well located, with stunning views of the mountains. Right next to the Delaire Graff Estate. Modern decoration. Our room, on the side, was very nice, and spacious, with underfloor heating. The hotel was empty. Just our room and one more. I did not like it because we had a feeling of a little bit of isolation. Very good breakfast. However, two points left to be desired: 1. The receptionists seemed a little inexperienced. Maybe because the hotel was empty, the main employees were off....I don´t know for sure ....They weren't very friendly. Any question I made the feeling I had is that I was bothering.... not usual in a luxury hotel. 2. Every night below our room it seems that a machine started to work. At first I thought it was some kind of maintenance that they were doing at the hotel at dawn, taking advantage of the fact that it was empty - which would be disrespectful to us who were there but then I think it was a boiler or something like that was activated in the middle of the night and It made a lot of noise in our room. As a light sleeper, I woke up every night. This is one point that would make me not recommend the hotel. However, overall the hotel is beautiful, in a prime location. We checked out at 4 am and they provided us with breakfast to take away, which was very nice of them.

A lovely stay in a peaceful space. Breakfast was delicious, and ample. Room was comfortable and spacious. Aircon kept the room warm (visited in winter), and the view from the bed, out the door was lovely.

Fitted with period furniture the exquisitely refurbished Manor House at Weltevreden Estate offers guest accommodation at a world-class standard. There are four elevated bed chambers upstairs under a cosy thatched roof. Our beautiful renovated self-catering 2-bedroom farm cottage is the perfect place to unwind over a weekend or for long-term travel accommodation during your visit to the Winelands. The estate also boasts over a new, tastefully decorated and very spacious open plan cottage situated on the edge of the river.
Weltevreden estate is a small but beautifull Cape Wine farm full of bygone charm. The views are delightfull as you walk around thier Charming garden full of art and it is so peacefull to sit on the terrace with a book and enjoy the surroundings. The rooms are old school charm and set in the eves of the thatch. I did find mine a little dark, even though it was a glorious sunny day outside, with such a small window and I would have liked more space to get ready at the sink and dressing table and a decent size mirror but I really enjoyed my stay. A great restaurant on site (for lunch and breakfast only)with fabulous food and service and wifi worked well. Altogether I really enjoyed my stay.
