We stopped here having driven from Esperance (900km) and arrived at 9:pm. The rooms were basic but very clean and comfortable. The staff were helpful and we had a good nights rest before another long drive. A good place to rest for the night.?

I booked for a function that lasted a few days, so asked for 4 nights - big mistake. On arrival the personless check in did not recognise my booking, necessitating a call to an anonymous person who completed the process nad gave me the code to open the door. On entry it was clear this place had passed it's use by date a long time ago, a musty smell greeted me, a cheap bedspread and mustard coloured towels yuk! There was a set of bunks as well as the double bed, but no desk or shelf for your luggage. Just a very small round table and three cheap metal chairs - not a comfortable chair in sight - for a 4 night stay. Searched the available information for the wifi code, only to have to make another phone call to a surly man - "It's on the back of the door" he said 'no it is not 'said I grumpier and louder "it's on the back of the door!" 'NoI am looking at the door and there is nothing there but uncleaned grot No said I so reluctantly he spelt out the code. Next mistake I said you are from the motel up the road and have a restaurant yes he said. "Well I will be up for dinner." Arrived in the restaurant to be asked if I had a booking well no but I did mention that I was coming and unaware of the need for a booking. Again surly staff put me on a stool on a corner of the bar where I waited more than an hour for a simple meal. On returning to my room I entered the code but the door would not open, tried again and again, ththen phoned again " Yes" said the girl "that door sticks, pull it towards yo when you put in the code" Well if you knew this why not bloody fix it thinks I !! TV reception was patchy with the screen showing 'no signal' a lot. The safety chain on the door was broken so we had to rely on the dodgy lock for security - next morning A shower was Ok but those mustard towels! Then to my breakfast, put muffins in the toaster and the power went out. Me says 'not another phone call", but a quick look outside found the switchboard and I reset the breaker. As I was walking back to the room another gent came out and said he had the same experience, later I discovered the kettle did not work either - but I had a big day ahead so off to work. I went. Returning late in the day I had the sticky door problem again and not wanting to face the surly staffm gave the restaurant a miss, SO i had good look around, bearing in mind this motel charged $180 per night, looked like gypsies were accommodated behind the motel, Bearin in mind that price, I searched for and found good accommodation for much less tan that and determined to check out in the morning. Here is a summary of the room problems Sticky door, broken security chain, no comfy chair, Toaster blows electricity, kettle does not work, peeling paint on Bathroom door, cracked, peelin and dirty paint on front door, surly staff on phone and restaurant, TV reception crook and for that extortionate price, they did not supply a wash cloth!! In addition the room serviceing was very rudimentary, probably consisting of pulling up the bed. A plate, knife and glass I had washed and left in the sink to drain were still there!! as was the used towel and floor mat. Meaning the bathroom was not serviced. Next morning I packed and left, calling the phone number later to inform them I had checked out and requesting a refund of 2 nights. This was summarily refused by the Lady I spoke to - as I had booked throught a third party -Booking .com. So on returning home I contacted Booking.com explained the situation and asked for a refund. They later advised they had contacted the property who had again refused a refund!! Their next advice floored me, they gave me that familiar phone number to call to ask the property again ----

Comfortable but small rooms. We had two connecting rooms. Very friendly helpful staff. Newly renovated and nicely decorated. Low cost, good value for an overnight stay. Dont be fooled by the images on google maps. Taken before renos. Would stay again.

Paid extra to stay in a spa room and the spa did not work despite following all correct instructions. As it was a Sunday and they do not have reception on Sundays we could not report the problem. Told reception on check out and was told they would speak to maintenance and let me know. They did not let me know, I had to follow up and was told they could get it working so they can offer me vouchers next time. There will not be a next time as I paid for something that did not work and was not offered a refund. Also the blinds are literally non-existent so expect to wake up the second the sun comes up. Terrible experience, do not stay here!

Reception opens at 10am, wow so casual. Wanted to use the fridge freezer but it was impossible, had not been defrosted for maybe a year. As was the exhaust fan in the bathroom, it was caked on with with stuff since the room was refurbished, a very long time. And on the microwave was about ten wifi passwords, and being maybe 80 metres from the road, the bloody noise from vehicles is upsetting

Much of the food is home-made, very healthy, and made from original recipes. Strathalbyn town centre with its beautiful parks, and High St. with its antique shops and cafes, is only a short drive or walk away.
What a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the efforts of someone who obviously enjoys what she does! Judy’s attention to detail in her B and B, the gardens and her hospitality made this the highlight of our trip to S. Australia. Do yourselves a favour and take some time out to relax here and at the township of Strathalbyn.
