We stayed here for two nights. We received a very cordial welcome, despite arriving unannounced. Our spacious, well-equipped room was off a lovely courtyard. The hotel is next to the railway line but it must be very well soundproofed as we heard very little of the trains. We ate in the hotel one evening and had a very tasty, well cooked and presented meal. Breakfast was the typical French meal of bread and jam and pastries, with great coffee. We will stay here again next time we are in the area.

After receiving a reasonable welcome we were shown to our room which i have to say was very nice, well decorated and clean, the bathroom room was very modern with a superb shower. the bed was comfortable and the room was warm. tea and coffee was available, but no milk was supplied, now surely a lot of British people must stay here, i can't believe that they don't know that we like milk with our tea and coffee. Dinner was a big disappointment, a poor choice of food, hot dog or chicken and a veg pie, no starter was on offer, , i had the chicken, which was a small chicken leg, lettuce and over cooked potato wedges, sweet was a dry chocolate tart, no cream or ice cream with it. Im not a big eater but even i was left feeling hungry. My wife and i only had a soda water and lime each for drinks, plus awful strong coffee, for this poor excuse of a dinner we were charged 50 euros. Breakfast was actually very good, its just a shame we were let down with dinner. If they could get dinner sorted my rating would be much higher.

Close to the Channel, a very good alternative to a hotel for bed & breakfast. Extremely quiet - despite the railway line a few feet away - and a lovely warm welcome! At just €79 for a lovely big double room one could hardly go wrong. Breakfast was not the best, but did the job well enough.

Stayed here for four nights and can’t fault the hotel or the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. I travelled by motorcycle and was no problem parking in the locked courtyard so all was safe and secure. The hotel is a 2 minute walk from the main square in Bethune. Some rooms have jacuzzi baths, very clean, spacious and comfortable. Will definitely stay again when I’m the area

Anyone who has stayed at Abbaye de Belval would be surprised I gave it a 4 out of 5 rating. There is no Television, there's no tea/coffee making facilities, the furniture is very basic being a wardrobe with odd hangers and a desk with a wooden chair. My impression was that it is to experience how a Monk lives. However, I gave it a 'Very Good' rating because I loved it. I probably had the best nights sleep I've had in years, maybe down to no TV or Coffee plus the bed was very comfortable. It is so quiet, no main road nearby, only a very rural lane with possibly 2 or 3 cars a day. Nearby are some lovely woods with paths which are quite exciting to explore, beyond them is agricultral land growing wheat and vegetables. The only sound I heard was bird song. Vivienne, the hotel manager, speaks pretty good English and is very welcoming and helpful. The lady that does the breakfast is lovely but no English at all but we got by and had a laugh in the process. The hotel is attached to the Abbey and breakfast consisted of very fresh French bread, brioche, a variety of conserves including honey, chocolate spread (packaged but good nontheless). Apple (Pomme) juice made at the Abbey and also two different delicious cheeses made by the Sisters at the Abbey. Lovely fresh coffee and a cereal which I think was something like Kellogs Frosties which I passed on but ate a huge amount of the delicious bread. So all in all I really enjoyed my overnight stay but if you want a bit more luxury and facilities it is not the place for you but if you want some peace and quiet it is perfect. There is a nearby Abbey Shop (Boutique) where you can get a snack and a coffee during the day, plus souvenirs and produce of the Abbey. Anything else is a drive away. Arras and other Somme Battlefields are within easy reach, Arras is only 25 minutes ride. Hints - Take some drinks, cans or a travel kettle or cup element, tea bags and/or coffee. As it was, I only drank tap water which is unusual for me but also helped with the sleep. Give the shower time, it does eventually get hot! There is a massage, aromatherapy, room but I didn't see anyone as I left quite early in the morning but it was right next to my room (15). P.S. It's not busy, I was the only guest at breakfast, and the only guest in the hotel as far as I knew, it's that quiet. P.P.S. as it is not a busy hotel the reception room is not manned all the time. Look just around the corner, to the left, and you'll see a black wall mounted telephone. You can use this to call someone to book in or for other assistance. There's no telephone in the rooms.

A beautifully restored water mill decorated in a very interesting and individual style. Owner spoke little English but we got by and she was so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was exceptional with French toast to die for! Very convenient for Le Touquet and not far from Channel crossings. Would stay there again.

This is a beautifully renovated place conveniently located near the train station. I stayed in a lovely small bedroom and a very large bathroom with a huge tub. But I found it challenging since I do not speak French and most of the staff do not speak English. The front desk is only staffed in the mornings during breakfast so you are at a loss if you need anything later in the day or evening. The wifi was not reliable and required typing in a long password each time.

We stayed in the family room which was ideal as the childs room is attached to your room and private especially for an 11 year old, but safe for younger children as they have to access your room to get out. The place was immaculate and the maintained and cleaned every day. The breakfast was amazing, plenty of choice. Children very welcome and we were made to feel at home, the owners do not speak english but it was not a problem. The location is also good with a local village and sea not far away.
